It is not every day that you spot a gray lump wandering near the New York seaport. However, that’s exactly what some bystanders encountered one day. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was an injured animal and, unsure of how to help, chose to call a professional.
Long Island animal rescuer Karenlynn Stracher received the urgent call about the animal in distress and quickly headed to the scene. When she arrived, she noticed a gray-feathered creature ambling through the parking lot, immediately recognizing it as a seagull.
A Worrying Injury

Upon closer evaluation, Karenlynn discovered that this young gull had a broken wing, a troubling injury. However, much to her surprise, the bird was moving both wings, which is unusual for such an injury.

To determine the extent of the injury, she needed to capture the bird for a thorough examination, so she promptly grabbed her net and sprang into action.
Baby Is In Safe Hands

Even though Karenlynn had encountered similar situations before, it took her some time to successfully catch the bird in her net. Upon closer examination, she was saddened to find out that this young seagull was likely born just the previous spring. “Another baby,” Karenlynn lamented in a TikTok video. “I hate when this happens to the babies.”
Fortunately, the injury wasn’t as severe as initially thought, and most importantly, the gull was now in safe hands. Shortly after capturing him, Karenlynn contacted her friends at Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown, New York, who agreed to provide further care for the injured bird. With assistance from caring individuals, this young seagull is expected to recover and one day soar over the sparkling sea where he truly belongs.
