Pup Who Stayed a Month in Foster Care Feels Sad About Returning to Shelter in Missouri

Date:

Every stray or shelter dog dreams of finding their forever home and living a peaceful life with their favorite human. Unfortunately, many strays or shelter dogs never find new families and spend most of their lives in the shelter.

This harsh reality is difficult for them, and even if they are rescued, it doesn’t ensure they will find a loving home. Brandy’s story is a heartbreaking example of this struggle. Just when it seemed things were improving, everything fell apart.

Brandy’s Depressing Story

Upon arriving at a shelter in Texas, the rescuers knew they would have to euthanize Brandy unless she found a home soon. When her situation became dire, the team at Pawportunities Animal Rescue in Missouri stepped in, giving her a fresh start. She was taken in, displaying immediate happiness and hope that these kind-hearted people would help her.

Shortly after, Brandy was placed into a foster home, experiencing the joys of a normal life for the first time.

However, just as things started to improve, trouble arose. Brandy was unexpectedly sent back to the shelter in Missouri, leaving her utterly devastated. Her rescuers were heartbroken, witnessing her fearful response as she urinated in distress upon return. They shared her story through a video on TikTok in hopes of finding her a forever home.

Everyone Was Heartbroken

After the video gained significant attention, many viewers expressed their heartbreak in the comments, resonating with Brandy’s plight. One user shared a personal experience of fostering a dog who also faced rejection, while another lamented the situation with Brandy and her foster family.

It’s disheartening to see that Brandy’s foster situation didn’t work out, but hopefully this exposure will raise awareness and lead to a loving adopter. Another user aptly noted the importance of fostering while recognizing the potential trauma it can cause when dogs are returned. Brandy deserves a chance to experience the love and security of a permanent home, where she can thrive alongside a caring companion.

Brandy came from a high kill shelter in Texas, along with her two siblings Bandit and Haylie. Terrified upon arrival, she quickly went into a foster home where she was beginning to blossom (see video links in comments). Unfortunately, after a month in the home, the foster doesn’t think she’s a good fit and she was returned back to the shelter. This is no fault of Brandy or the foster. We are grateful Brandy was able to spend a month outside of the shelter. We wanted people to see what happens when a dog enters the shelter—regardless of the reason. It’s heartbreaking and gut-wrenching. All we want to do is hold each of them and tell them it’s going to be okay. But we can’t promise them a time when someone will step up and be their hero. Brandy could really use a hero right now. (So could her sister Haylie.) A foster or adopter, one that understands the trauma she comes with—who can be patient, encouraging, loving, and compassionate—can help build her self-confidence, earn her trust, and help her forget her troubled past. Can you help us find her hero by liking, commenting, and sharing this post?
