Rocky Kanaka is joined by dogs once again. However, this time, our cherished dog rescuer found himself deeply affected. Upon seeing the state of this Great Dane, Rocky was visibly disturbed. Such a large dog, yet so emaciated.
Scooby was a heartbreaking sight, largely due to his former owners. He had been moved in and out of the shelter, ultimately being abandoned by his family because the children showed no interest in feeding him. This had a profound impact on Scooby, both mentally and physically.
Is there a chance for Scooby to reclaim his former glory?

Great Danes… what magnificent creatures!
Among the 200 recognized dog breeds, Great Danes stand out as gentle giants.
These dogs are large and sturdy, possessing even larger hearts. Initially, they may appear intimidating due to their size, but there is nothing to fear.
Experience shows that Great Danes are one of the most gentle breeds.
Scooby embodies that trait perfectly.
This unfortunate Great Dane was abandoned and turned away by his former owners simply because the kids refused to feed him. Really… expecting young children to take on such a significant responsibility? Seriously…
When Scooby was left behind, it was clear that his ex-owner had lost sight of the commitment involved. One doesn’t just abandon a dog due to lack of feeding. Responsibility should come first.
This dog has been returned to the shelter before. Initially, he was surrendered during a night drop-off before being taken back in. Ultimately, when his family sought help again, it was because they were relocating from California to another country and couldn’t take Scooby with them.
No situation could ever excuse the state in which Scooby was found.
Scooby should never have ended up looking like this… a mere shadow of a dog. No Great Dane should ever be in such a condition.
Rumors circulated about Scooby suggesting he was abandoned because his mom threatened her children that Scooby would be surrendered if they didn’t feed him. The truth of these rumors remains unknown, but the possibility seems likely.
On another note, taking care of a Great Dane requires significant resources, especially when it comes to food. It’s possible financial difficulties played a role. Perhaps, just perhaps, managing a Great Dane turned out to be more than they could handle.
Furthermore, Scooby’s medical records indicate he has a history of gastrointestinal issues.
Rocky is determined not to dwell on the past too much. What’s crucial now is to assist Scooby and guide him towards a brighter path.
Sitting With Scooby
Rocky employs an excellent technique for the resocialization of rescue dogs. If you haven’t noticed, he takes a seat beside them to help them feel at ease and wanted. However, he doesn’t rush in. Rocky has a successful strategy he adheres to every time.
When he first approached Scooby, the dog was already relatively calm, but that wasn’t a cue to rush in. Rocky prefers to take his time, allowing the dog to get accustomed to him whilst offering treats as a gesture of goodwill.
Being the great dog that he is, Scooby eagerly accepted Rocky’s treats, compliments, and the affectionate petting that followed. Such a method alleviates the pressure from dogs and prevents them from feeling overwhelmed.
Scooby had ample opportunity to get comfortable with Rocky’s presence.
“Oh, I’m sorry Scooby, whatever you’ve been through, you don’t deserve it,” Rocky expressed in the video while showering Scooby with cuddles and treats, “We’re going to fill your belly, and we’re going to fill your heart.”
As Rocky conducted the ultimate trust exercise, the scoop, he could feel Scooby’s bones protruding. The outline of Scooby’s spine and ribs were starkly visible. This dog was nothing like a typical Great Dane.
Rocky’s observation of Scooby suggested he might have Great Dane mixed genes, potentially including some Mutt or Ridgeback lineage.
It was truly heartbreaking because within that skin and bones exterior existed a stunning dog with remarkable coloring. Scooby merely needed a bit of affection to flourish.
And Rocky ensured he would receive that, and so much more.
Scooby’s Bright Future
Named after the beloved cartoon character, Scooby Doo, this Scooby is indeed headed for a bright future.
Thanks to Rocky, this large dog will have sponsors providing food for an entire year. A dog as big as Scooby requires substantial nourishment and truly enjoys his “Scooby snacks.”
In a remarkably short time, Scooby transformed into a whole new dog. The positive changes are incredibly clear. He has been gaining weight steadily, and the best part is that his health is being closely monitored, showing no significant concerns.
However, the most significant transformation lies in Scooby’s behavior. Unlike their first encounter, during this reunion Scooby was enthusiastically wagging his tail. He emanated happiness in seeing a familiar face and couldn’t wait to share his progress with everyone.
After spending some quality time at the shelter and receiving ample attention and kind treatment from the shelter staff, Rocky, and numerous kind-hearted individuals, Scooby was ready to be adopted.
During the time of Rocky’s update video, Scooby was anticipating meeting potential adopters. Let’s hope this sweet and vulnerable soul finally finds the loving home he deserves, regardless of whether it’s in California or elsewhere.
