Every dog possesses a hidden talent that astounds their owners eventually. Tiki, a senior shelter dog, showcased his unique skills not just to his caregivers but to the entire internet!
This lovable pup turned out to be a world-class Houdini, a fact that the shelter staff would soon realize through their security camera footage. Being a naturally social dog, Tiki disliked being confined to a crate during the night. So, he took matters into his own paws by unlocking the door and escaping the room in search of companionship.
He’s One Sneaky Senior
Rescued from a Michigan road as a stray, Tiki surprised everyone right from his arrival at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Despite being homeless, Tiki immediately showcased his friendly nature and was eager to avoid any more solitude.
However, due to overcrowding at the shelter, Tiki was confined to a crate during his first few nights. Unsurprisingly, this didn’t sit well with him. Instead of waiting for the volunteers, he cleverly escaped from the crate, opened the office door, and wandered through the shelter until he navigated his way out the front door.
Fortunately, he was found by a vet arriving early for work. The staff thought they had resolved the issue, but Tiki had other ideas. The next evening, he duplicated his escape attempt, this time leaving the shelter unimpeded.
Tiki skillfully navigated the hallways to the front door and casually strolled into the nearby Matthaei Botanical Gardens.
Assuming he was lost, the MBG staff safely returned Tiki to the shelter. The method behind his escape still puzzled everyone.
Tiki’s Second Chance
Just two weeks after Tiki’s viral video showcasing his escape, he was adopted into a forever home in Michigan. Unfortunately, his new owner had to return him due to the severe separation anxiety Tiki exhibited. “He was adopted, but separation anxiety proved challenging. We now know he needs someone who can be home often and work through this,” the Michigan rescue shared on Facebook.
However, the shelter remained optimistic. They believed that given Tiki’s sweet disposition, it wouldn’t be long before a suitable family appeared. To everyone’s delight, Tiki didn’t have to wait long.
The Michigan rescue proudly announced that Tiki had found his forever home with a retired dad who is more than willing to give him the best care in his golden years.
“He has been in one of our fosters for the remaining duration of his time, and today Tiki hit the jackpot with his new freshly retired dad! We at HSHV wish Tiki the happiest of homes,” the rescue concluded.
Tiki finally found his luck. And who knows, he might just astound his new dad with another remarkable display of skills or perhaps recreate his Houdini act.
