As an experienced animal rescuer, you’ve likely witnessed heart-wrenching instances of animal abuse. The dedicated individuals at the Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Northeast (SNARR) have spent 13 years rescuing animals in Brewster, New York, and thought they had seen it all. However, a recent phone call detailing two adorable puppies’ traumatic experience reminded them that surprises can still occur.
Rescue Mission

The caller reported witnessing a man throw two adorable Labrador Retriever-mix puppies from a moving car into a stream. While one puppy managed to crawl out, his brother struggled to keep his head above water. SNARR commented on their Instagram: “It’s heartbreaking to witness the evil that exists in this world; sometimes it’s too much to even think about.”

Fortunately, the caller acted swiftly, rescuing the puppies from the water before the SNARR team arrived. The team quickly transported the distressed puppies to their headquarters in New York, where a medical exam confirmed that their rescuer had indeed saved their lives just in time!
“These fragile souls are incredibly lucky to be alive. Thanks to a compassionate Good Samaritan who bravely rescued them from the stream, they now have a chance to survive,” wrote SNARR.

Recovery Journey
Later named Tucker and Charlotte, the two puppies were in serious condition, suffering from water in their lungs, road rash, and parasites. Fortunately, they were placed in the capable hands of medical professionals who crafted a foolproof treatment plan that included an abundance of love and care. “We have no idea what further challenges lie ahead, but we are determined to fight for their lives,” SNARR shared.
Not surprisingly, the treatment plan worked wonders, as both Tucker and Charlotte made remarkable progress during their stay at SNARR. They came out of their shells, enthusiastic to continue their recovery in a warm foster home.
At The Fosters
A loving foster family opened their home to the two puppies, eager to show them what it means to be truly loved. Now, they enjoy their days filled with playdates, adventures, and cozy cuddles. According to SNARR’s Lauren F., “Their foster mom said they are absolutely the most adorable babies! They are playful and loving… and they get so excited when they get out of the kennel in the morning and see you for the first time!”
Though still startled by loud noises and sudden movements, everyone is confident that a forever home awaits them. “They’re learning they’re in a safe place now,” Laura remarked.
