When Caryn, a dedicated rescuer, logged into her Facebook, she stumbled upon a heartbreaking post about a group of dogs trapped in an abandoned property nearby. Working with the Humane Society of Mason County (HSMC), she felt compelled to help, especially after noticing the authorities were late to respond. Taking matters into her own hands, Caryn went to the location herself.
Not On My Watch

Upon arriving, tears welled up in Caryn’s eyes as she witnessed the dire conditions these pups were in. The HSMC described the situation in a video stating, “[They] were found abandoned, living in squalid conditions.” The dogs were confined to a filthy, muddy backyard littered with trash and hazardous items, with a total of six dogs present, including the adorable pair, Hank and Scooby.
After the authorities arrived, Caryn received permission to facilitate the removal of the dogs. Thankfully, she was able to secure a safe haven for them right away. One pup went to People for Animal Care and Kindness, while the remaining were cared for by the HSMC.

In a short time, Mason County found a loving foster family for Brutus. The others, including Scooby and Hank, along with Tucker and Ringo, were taken in by a caring foster mom named Donna.
Patience Is Key
As time passed, Tucker and Ringo eventually found their forever home. Unfortunately, Scooby and Hank faced more challenges. Due to their traumatic past, they were highly fearful and struggled to connect with humans.
“Both boys were incredibly timid of new people, situations, and loud noises. [B]ut they thrived around other dogs, who helped give them confidence,” shared a representative from HSMC with The Dodo.

Nevertheless, rescuers did not lose hope. They believed that, in time, the perfect match would materialize for these gentle boys. Their faith was rewarded! Just a few months later, Scooby found his forever home.
“After 182 days with HSMC, Scooby has finally found his forever family! He loves his canine brother, and his new people will give him all the time he needs to feel safe and comfortable in his new home,” the representative stated.

Now, only Hank remains without a forever home. Given the remarkable progress he has made since his rescue, everyone at the organization believes that his ideal family is just around the corner! “Hank has made incredible progress in his foster home, gaining confidence each day. He plays politely with his older canine sister, who has severe arthritis, and loves to sprint around the yard with his younger pals,” remarked the representative.
