Imagine living in a house, unaware of what lies beneath. Then, you hear strange, distant barks echoing through your floorboards, leaving you puzzled and uneasy. This eerie situation unfolded for a man in Longview, Texas. Upon discovering the source of the mysterious sounds, both he and the rescue crew were left astonished!
How Did He End Up There
The Texas tenant quickly shifted from concern to hero. Upon hearing the urgent barks emanating from underground, he immediately alerted animal control. Officer Jumper responded and began investigating, soon discovering that the sounds originated from a chilling, rock-paved well directly beneath the house’s floor.
The men were left astonished, questioning how such a pit had gone unnoticed and how the dog had ended up there. While attempting to unravel this mystery, Officer Jumper called for backup.
Within moments, the rest of the team from the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center, along with the Longview Fire Department, arrived at the scene to commence the rescue of a dog trapped in the previously unseen 12-foot-deep well.
At first, it seemed nearly impossible to rescue the canine as he was out of reach, prompting thoughts of tearing up the home’s floorboards. However, they quickly devised an alternative strategy.
Choosing not to damage the house, they crafted improvised slings and successfully hoisted the dog out. After about three hours, the Basset Hound was finally safe!
“Thanks to the quick thinking and heroic efforts of our local firefighters and animal control team, the dog was safely brought to the surface, shaken but unharmed,” the shelter stated in a Facebook post.
Happy Outcome
After a quick assessment, the rescuers confirmed that the dog was healthy, free of injuries and underlying health issues. He was named Timmy, after the character from “Lassie,” and was safely taken to the rescue center. Fortunately, Timmy was found to be without an owner, making him available for immediate adoption.
One of the firemen, charmed by Timmy’s friendly demeanor, eagerly volunteered to adopt him. “Timmy is doing well, and if not reclaimed, one of the firefighters will be adopting him,” shared Kimberly Brown-Brooks, the rescue coordinator, in the comments. However, Timmy struggled to get along with the man’s cats, leading to a need for a different home. Luckily, he found a loving family soon after, capturing the hearts of those drawn to his vibrant personality.
Timmy’s new life is now filled with cuddles, adventures, and joyful days in his yard. The LACAC team expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to Timmy’s rescue, highlighting the significance of community involvement. “Thank you to all who played a role in this miraculous rescue. It’s a poignant reminder of the strong bond between humans and animals, and how communities unite during times of need,” the Texas shelter concluded.
