Olivia Boblet began volunteering at the SPCA of Southwest Michigan, never expecting to fall in love at first sight with a pup named Otis. With his soulful, adorable eyes and sweet demeanor, he quickly stole her heart. Unfortunately, Otis had a sad story; his family had to surrender him after a house fire displaced them, and during his first days at the shelter, he whined, missing his loved ones.
Helping Otis Overcome His Sadness

To help Otis cope, Olivia and the shelter staff showered him with love and attention, which gradually improved his spirits. Otis enjoyed going for walks and would light up with joy whenever Olivia approached his kennel. As he played and ran in the yard, he transformed into a lively, happy pup, making it hard for Olivia to leave him behind each day.
“He just wanted to stay out and play and enjoy what a normal dog enjoys. Seeing him get the zoomies and just de-stress and let it all out and be so happy was, I don’t know, it just made me happy because I knew that I was making him happy by going there and taking him outside,” Olivia told GeoBeats Animals.
Olivia became deeply attached to Otis, often crying at the thought of him alone in his kennel. While she found comfort in knowing he was in good hands at the shelter, she felt a strong desire to adopt him, yet circumstances wouldn’t allow it at that time. Otis was eventually offered a chance at adoption, leaving Olivia torn between happiness for him and her own sadness at the thought of losing him.
Making Great Memories Together

While Olivia’s family and boyfriend’s family visited Otis, they could see how joyful he became whenever she showered him with affection, basking in the love that Olivia offered. One particular memory stood out for Olivia: taking Otis outside one muddy day, where he got the zoomies and playfully knocked her down, leaving her both embarrassed and elated at his playful spirit.
Though she wished to adopt him when she moved in June 2023, fate led Otis to a wonderful family who fell for his charm and decided to adopt him in May 2023. Before his departure, Otis said heartfelt goodbyes to the shelter staff and Olivia, the volunteer who had brought so much joy to his days.

Although Olivia longed to have him as her own, she found solace in knowing Otis was cherished in his new home, where he enjoys restful nights in a cozy bed and affectionate goodnight kisses from his new family, including two adoring sisters. Updates from his new mom brought joy to Olivia, confirming that Otis was living his best life after finding his happily-ever-after.
