Alabama Rescuers Stunned to Discover Dog Trapped With Head Stuck in Plastic Box for a Year

Date:

Bear, a Cane Corso dog, wandered the streets of Mobile, Alabama, with a plastic box stuck on his head for nearly a year. Terrified and huge, he evaded rescue efforts as animal control officers struggled to catch him. However, a determined group from the City of Mobile Animal Services and Mobile County Animal Shelter came together to save him.

A Mission To Rescue Bear

Over several months, Bear was seen wandering with a large plastic box—likely from a trash can—stuck on his head, possibly while searching for food. It’s astonishing that he survived so long, given how this must have hindered his ability to eat and drink. After months of attempting to aid him, a compassionate local finally notified officials, prompting the launch of a significant rescue operation.

With teamwork among compassionate volunteers, animal control officers managed to remove the box from Bear’s head. Unfortunately, while they succeeded in that, Bear, frightened, ran away before they could secure him with a leash. Refusing to give up, the team orchestrated an extensive operation leading to his eventual capture.

The staff at the shelter experienced an emotional ride through the rescue efforts. Even though they removed the box, Bear escaped, leading to further attempts at capture. Eventually, after persistent efforts, Bear found refuge at the city’s shelter.

“The staff absolutely LOVE him and he is being treated like a king. He is very sweet and has a long happy life ahead of him,” stated Martin Miller, one of the rescue volunteers, on his social media.

Bear Has Been Adopted

Bear’s journey captured significant attention. Initially on a stray hold, his adoption was delayed. Yet at the shelter, he began to open up and formed a connection with a volunteer who chose to adopt him.

“Finding a good home for a dog with this much publicity is challenging. Many desire to adopt him, but we thought who better than a team member who dedicated time to rescuing him?” commented Robert Bryant, Director of City of Mobile Animal Services, in an interview with WKRG.

Bear is now a cherished member of the Miller family, adoring his new dad, Martin Miller. Having been alone for so long, he will never experience solitude again, remaining close to the shelter and the supportive community that dedicated time to his rescue. Now, Bear serves as a new ambassador for the City of Mobile Animal Services, helping promote the adoption of stray animals alongside Martin.

Bear’s story has touched the hearts of many, and from here on out, he is poised for a life of happiness.
