While the holidays of Christmas and New Year’s are generally seen as a joyful season, for many individuals and animals, they can be quite distressing.
During this time, animal rescuers find themselves inundated with calls regarding dogs and other pets in need of assistance.
This year was no different, as rescuers in Tennessee undertook three operations in the final days of the year, hoping to welcome the New Year in tranquility, but fate had other plans.
They embarked on a rescue mission for numerous dogs discovered in a trailer home.
Heartbreaking Conditions
Upon receiving a call from a concerned citizen about abandoned dogs in a trailer home in Crossville, Tennessee, the Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) acted swiftly and headed to the location.
The shocking state of the trailer’s interior met them upon arrival.
According to an ARC Facebook post, responders discovered 23 small mix-breed dogs who were “roaming on floors soaked in urine and covered in feces, surrounded by broken furniture and makeshift barriers within the trailer.”
Tragically, among them were seven young puppies, mere five weeks old, all in dire condition.
“Due to the absence of veterinary care and the abhorrent living conditions, the dogs were afflicted with both internal and external parasites (like fleas and ticks) and were exposed to high levels of ammonia,” stated the ARC.
Regrettably, this heartbreaking scenario was the result of “irresponsible breeding of unspayed dogs in a cramped environment.”
Brighter Future Ahead Of Them
Despite being deeply affected and saddened, the rescuers found the strength to act swiftly and save these poor animals.
The operation to save the dogs from the trailer involved many compassionate rescuers, and they were ultimately successful.
Following the rescue, the dogs were transported to the ARC Rescue Center in Gallatin, Tennessee, located about 40 minutes east of Nashville.
“Each animal will undergo a comprehensive veterinary examination, receive appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatments until they can be placed with trusted shelters and rescue partners for adoption into loving homes,” ARC described in their post.
All the dogs, including the young puppies, are on the path to recovery from the terrible conditions they endured, which brings smiles to the faces of rescuers and supporters alike.
“The new year marks a fresh start for these dogs and pups,” stated Amy Haverstick, ARC’s Director of Operations. “Their future is looking much brighter, and I’m thrilled we could help them.”
