Dog Left Behind on California Railway Stays Put, Waiting for Her Family to Come Back

Date:

From the moment we welcome dogs into our homes, we commit to loving and caring for them forever. Showered with affection, these wonderful companions grow into confident, happy beings. However, it saddens me to hear about increasing cases of dog owners abandoning their pups in perilous places without regard for their well-being. Left in confusion, these loyal dogs wait, believing their families will return for them.

Believing Her Family Didn’t Abandon Her

Ribbles, a loyal and sweet pup, was abandoned at a railway in Southern California. Unaware of her family’s departure, she remained on the tracks, hoping to see her owners return. Despite the inherent dangers, her hope fueled her wait. Days passed, and although her belief in their return wavered, Ribbles clung to the hope of seeing her family again, missing them deeply.

Fortunately, a kind-hearted woman spotted Ribbles just as she narrowly avoided an oncoming train. After failing to catch her, the woman reached out to Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, to report the perilous situation.

Hall rushed to the scene and spotted Ribbles on the tracks. While she was there, a train passed multiple times, and each time Ribbles escaped into a small hole in the fence leading to a car dealership property. The staff there reported that they had been feeding her and allowing her to sleep on-site.

With their kind assistance, Hall set up a humane trap inside the property, placing Ribbles’ food in a crate and waiting patiently for her to enter. Recognizing the dog’s hesitation, Hall decided to give her space and return the following day. Upon her return, Hall’s heart sank when she saw something on the tracks; fortunately, it turned out to be only coyotes scrounging for food.

When she checked the trap, joy filled her heart to find Ribbles inside, finally rescued.

After taking Ribbles to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, the vet diagnosed her with a severe ear infection and a swollen elbow and leg. It broke Hall’s heart to know that the sweet dog suffered alone while awaiting rescue.

Ribbles’ bravery, surviving on the train tracks near coyotes and enduring daily danger, truly impressed Hall. Her love and loyalty to her family far outweighed her fears.

Once she fully recovered, the loyal dog with angelic eyes found her forever home. Her new family instantly fell in love with her, recognizing that she belonged with them. Ribbles was renamed Lucy, and she now thrives in Joshua Tree, basking in the infinite love of her family alongside her dog sister, enjoying their hikes together.

We are delighted that dear Lucy has found her place under the sun, receiving the love and care every canine deserves. Sadly, many dogs still face abandonment in dangerous locations. If you spot a stray dog, please contact your local shelter or rescue. Let’s work together to save these innocent beings and show them they are not alone.
