Unfortunately, it has become quite common to see a stray dog aimlessly roaming the streets nowadays, particularly for those who dedicate their lives to rescuing animals.
On one particular day, a compassionate rescuer from Houston, Texas, found herself deeply affected when she stumbled upon a lonely dog left abandoned near a busy road.
This unfortunate pup had been cast aside by his family, and after enjoying a warm and loving home, it was utterly bewildering for him to suddenly end up in a harsh, unfamiliar environment. He was lost, frightened, and disoriented.
This caring woman was so moved by the sight that she resolved to do everything in her power to restore happiness to his life.
Determined To Rescue Him
Kristin Erwin, the founder of Streetheart Project, a nonprofit rescue organization based in Houston, Texas, recognized that rescuing the abandoned dog she’d encountered would not be an easy endeavor.
However, she was completely committed to assisting him and was determined to do everything she could. Unprepared for the rescue at that moment, Kristin softly called out to the dog, hoping he would respond.
Sadly, as she suspected, the dog, now named Eggnog, had lost trust in humans after his abandonment, making her initial efforts unsuccessful. Eggnog was so frightened and bewildered that he eventually ran away, leaving Kristin anxious about his fate.
Despite her disappointment, Kristin was resolute and planned to return the following day with a more calculated strategy.

The next day, Kristin returned with a trap and some tempting food, believing that Eggnog wouldn’t be able to resist it. She placed the food inside the trap, leaving it open to entice the dog in.
After a while, it happened — a hungry Eggnog cautiously approached the open trap. When he saw no one around, he stepped inside and began eating.
The trap door shut, and Kristin had finally managed to secure the pup and bring him to safety.
No More The Fearful Dog
Kristin was ecstatic to have rescued Eggnog from the streets, but she was also aware that challenges still lay ahead for them.
Once at his new foster home, Eggnog did not display any aggressive behavior, but his fearful demeanor was evident, as he trembled with anxiety.
Being an experienced rescuer, Kristin knew she needed to be patient and allow him the time he required to regain his trust.
After several tough days, a breakthrough occurred — Eggnog began to warm to his rescuer. He began to understand that he was now in a safe environment and that this kind stranger was there to help mend his spirit.
After a few more days, Eggnog’s joyful spirit returned, and he transformed into a new dog, happily following his new favorite person around, smiling and wagging his tail excitedly.
While his future remains uncertain, Eggnog is definitely headed in the right direction — embracing the warmth of those like Kristin, rather than the coldness of those who once abandoned him.
