Heartwarming Rescue: Texas Truck Drivers Come to the Aid of a Pup Found in a Pile of Tires

Date:

Truck drivers arriving at a sand pit in Crosby, Texas, were disheartened to discover a lovely, abandoned dog. She gazed longingly into the distance, seemingly awaiting the return of her owners, unaware that she had been forsaken.

Searching For A Foster Family

The drivers contacted Megan, whose family owns the sand pit, for assistance with the little pup. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time Megan was involved in rescuing abandoned animals at the sand pit.

Megan ensured the dog, later named Dutchie, received food every day, thanks to the kind truck drivers who took turns providing care.

“We always send our dump truck drivers and operators with bags of dog food to feed the dogs that are down there and I always ask them to take pictures and video,” Megan shared.

Once she received the footage, Megan shared it on her Facebook page in search of a foster home for the sweet pup. She consistently checked in on Dutchie, with the truck drivers sending her daily updates. They would talk to her and try to build her trust, as the dog often sought refuge on a pile of tires.

Lola’s Lucky Day, an organization dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs in Houston and Dallas, found a foster family for Dutchie. Upon hearing the news, Megan felt an immense sense of relief and joy, leaving work immediately to rescue her.

“It was a relief. It was like… party. Like, I’m so glad. Whenever I know that there is a solution I never want to leave them down any second longer,” Megan expressed.

Once at the sand pit, she scanned the area for Dutchie, who blended in perfectly with the black tires she had been hiding in. Megan’s heart melted when she saw Dutchie’s tiny head peek out, excited to see a familiar face.

“And then she came out of the tires, excited to see me. She was looking for food but happy and friendly. She came straight up to me,” Megan shared.

She successfully placed a leash around Dutchie’s neck. The adorable pup looked at her with hope-filled eyes as she lay on her back, requesting belly rubs from her rescuer.

Megan was smitten. Dutchie spent her first night at Megan’s home, finally feeling the warmth of a real shelter.

“When I put her in the backyard to run around, it was grass, and I could tell she sensed a difference. She knew she was experiencing a homelier environment compared to where she was fending for herself. Here, she could truly be herself,” Megan reflected.

The following day, Megan transported Dutchie to her new foster parents, Kaitlin and Lauren. Initially, Dutchie was uncertain and distrustful, although she yearned for love and affection. After a vet visit, where she was diagnosed with heartworm, an injured ankle, and hip issues, she started receiving the necessary treatment and began to improve.

With her foster parents’ slow and loving approach, Dutchie began to feel secure and started to unwind. She grew to enjoy snuggling and overcame her fears, blossoming into a confident, happy pup with a bright smile.

She was eager to start a new chapter in her life, ready to leave her past behind.
