One summer morning, the Cuse Pit Crew (CPC), a nonprofit from Syracuse, N.Y., was unprepared for the emotional toll the day would take when they learned about a senior dog named Max, tied up and left in a park.
A Heartbreaking Discovery

As advocates for responsible Pit Bull ownership, the crew felt tears welling in their eyes upon finding Max, visibly depressed and waiting for rescue. Fortunately, hope was on the horizon.
“This morning, sweet Max was left tied to a picnic bench in Syracuse’s Schiller Park with a note. We collaborated with the Syracuse Police and Dog Control who documented the situation and transported Max for emergency care,” stated CPC in a Facebook post.
Before they could load Max into their vehicle, they spotted a note attached to a nearby pole, explaining his situation. The note read: “I’m a good boy. I am 17 years old. My name is Max. My owners can’t take care of me anymore. Please help me!”

CPC contacted authorities to help find Max a temporary home where he could relax and recover. They emphasized that this heartbreaking situation was preventable, stating, “Max is not the first dog abandoned in a park, and he won’t be the last. If more people knew about our services, this could’ve been averted. We’re here to help without judgment, ensuring pet owners feel safe approaching us for assistance.”

Everything Will Be Okay
After Max’s medical examinations, CPC shared an update revealing that he was taken in by the wonderful folks at HumaneCNY, who found him a loving temporary home. He is being treated for eye and ear infections as well as arthritis, and is thriving! His new caregivers are ensuring he receives all the healthy, nutritious food he needs to gain weight since he is significantly underweight.

With time, this sweet pup is sure to become strong and healthy, paving the way to find a forever family that will give him the happy life he has always deserved. Good luck, Max. Bright days are on the horizon!
