In an instant, the life of this sweet Pittie was upended when his owners abandoned him, leaving him confused and scared. The malnourished pup, later named Parker, curled up on a park bench trying to keep warm, hoping desperately that he would soon wake from this nightmare. Fortunately, a compassionate passerby noticed Parker trembling in the cold and felt compelled to help him.
Feeling Hopeful

It was clear that Parker had fended for himself for some time, as he was malnourished, with sore and patchy skin. The kind-hearted individual quickly brought him to Chicago Animal Care and Control. Without a collar or microchip, he was placed on a stray hold.

The photo of Parker waiting for his family on the bench resonated deeply online. Upon seeing it, the rescuers at One Tail at a Time, a Chicago-based rescue, immediately decided to take him under their wing, determined to give him a second chance at happiness.
“For so many dogs that could be the end … but not for Parker. Parker is about to learn what it means to be safe. To be loved. To be warm. To be healthy. And with any luck, to be adopted,” One Tail at a Time shared on Facebook.
Once Parker’s stray hold expired without anyone claiming him, the rescue stepped in to rescue him from the shelter. After being taken to the vet, he was diagnosed with kennel cough and received the necessary medication before moving to a foster home.
Recovering In A Loving Foster Home

Parker’s foster family is delighted with him. He is house-trained and walks well on a leash, suggesting he likely once had a home. Grateful for their care and love, Parker is thriving in his new environment. Although he is still recovering from kennel cough, his playful spirit shines through.

Parker tolerates his baths and medicine well, loving to play and nap on the couch, especially near his foster. Described as a ‘total goober’ by his foster family, Parker’s affectionate nature is apparent. Their belief in his potential to bring immense joy to a forever family is unwavering. Before long, this lovely pup will be on the lookout for a permanent home.

“Once his medicated baths and CRID medicine are completed, he will be scheduled for a neuter surgery and then become adoptable,” Thomas added. I am fully confident that a wonderful dog like Parker will soon find the happy ending he deserves.
