California Rescuers Stunned by the True Reason Behind Owner’s Surrender of Their Dog

Date:

Gilbert has been a true warrior his entire life! Despite his small size, this prideful Chi has never lost his sparkle. His tenacity is likely what has kept him on his paws through difficult times.

Homeless multiple times, his last experience saw him surrendered back to a shelter just three days after being adopted because his previous owner found him a source of jealousy for their other dog. But just when it seemed that this senior gentleman would never again find a loving family, Aimee entered his life!

Aimee Burton, a dog trainer from San Diego, California, fell in love with Gilbert instantly after seeing him on a shelter website. However, by the time she applied for him, he had already been adopted.

Her hopes dwindled until she received a call three days later. The family who adopted Gilbert surprisingly no longer wanted him due to jealousy from their other dog.

Aimee didn’t hesitate this time; she rushed to bring this extraordinary little guy home.

It was later revealed that Gilbert had once been a stray found in Lancaster, California. The details of his past remain unclear, but it’s a miracle he survived living on the streets for so long. Weighing only 4.8 pounds, Gilbert has always been a fighter!

“There are coyotes, foxes, and plenty of wildlife. The fact he survived out there is astonishing,” Aimee noted.

Initially reserved and shy, Gilbert took a few days to adjust to his new home. Aimee’s patient nature helped him build trust, and soon enough, he began to socialize with her other dogs, uncovering his vibrant personality for the first time.

Despite his age, Gilbert displays tremendous joy and enthusiasm for his new life! Although he has a bad knee, a collapsing trachea, and dental issues, he proudly fulfills his role as the man of the house. All dogs are drawn to him, and though he may lack the stamina of his younger siblings, he remains an integral part of the pack!

Sometimes, while his mom takes the other dogs for a walk, he stands at the front porch with an adorably sad expression, but as soon as they return, he is back to his cheerful self!
