Stray Texas Pup Celebrates When Kindhearted Stranger Comes to His Aid

Date:

If nightmares were real, Buddy’s life would be the perfect example. At just one year old, this Great Dane mix has already experienced immense hardship. Initially found wandering the streets of Texas, Buddy was rescued and finally offered a warm, cozy home—a taste of happiness he had never known.

After a month with his rescuers, Buddy was surrendered to a local shelter. Dishearteningly, no one expressed interest in adopting him, and he faced euthanasia.

Just before this tragic end, shelter staff discovered Buddy’s microchip, revealing he had an original owner. However, they were shocked to learn that this owner wanted nothing to do with Buddy and was okay with his euthanasia. CUDDLY stated, “At the shelter, they discovered Buddy had a microchip and an owner! Normally, this would be a reason to celebrate, a way to reunite a lost dog with its owner. But heartbreakingly, the owner wanted nothing to do with Buddy.”

A small rescue organization shone a light on Buddy’s plight. This drew the attention of a young couple who decided to foster him, giving Buddy another chance at life. Sadly, it quickly became clear that he was far from healthy.

The couple learned that Buddy had severely damaged heart and lung conditions, making it difficult for him to stand. The rescue suggested returning Buddy to the shelter due to inadequate resources for his recovery. Nonetheless, the couple’s commitment to Buddy was unwavering; they spent thousands on his vet bills and reached out to Hoardin’ Huskies Rescue in South Carolina.

Working alongside CUDDLY, Hoardin’ Huskies rushed Buddy for urgent veterinary care. For the first time in a long while, Buddy received necessary treatments and is now on the path to recovery!

Buddy’s journey to the vet was nearly five hours long, during which his fosters provided him with an oxygen tank that was nearly empty upon arrival. The Cuddly team described the ride as “nerve-wracking for Buddy and his fosters as he traveled with an oxygen tank that was nearly depleted over the 4 1/2-hour drive.” Upon arrival, Buddy was immediately taken to the ER for treatment due to his critical condition.

This resilient pup is on a long road to recovery, but the veterinary team is optimistic that with the right care and support, Buddy will overcome these challenges. As per the latest update from Cuddly, “He is still on oxygen but overall, he is recuperating great! Buddy needs two more weeks of resting and then hopefully, we are praying that he is going to be okay.” Despite everything he’s faced, Buddy remains hopeful. With the support he is receiving, there’s no doubt this brave boy will soon see the light at the end of the tunnel!
