When California resident Hilary Klein spotted a peculiar mass of fur beneath a parked trailer, her curiosity was piqued. As she approached the vehicle, the fluffy bundle shifted, revealing a pair of sorrowful eyes. To her surprise, it was a dog in dire need of rescue.
The heavily matted canine showed a defeated look, seemingly having lost all hope. Klein took a photo and sent it to Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, a dog rescue organization in Irvine, California.
“He looked like he was just a pile of fur under a trailer. Thank goodness Hilary noticed him and reached out for help,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post.
Hall and her dedicated team quickly made their way to the location in hopes of rescuing the pup. Volunteer Mary Nakiso was the first to arrive, observing the dog as it anxiously alternated between hiding spots—under the trailer and nearby bushes. Hall soon joined her, and they were heartbroken to discover the pup had been discarded from a car weeks earlier. Eager to comfort him, they couldn’t wait to hold him in their arms.
Rescuing The Dog
The rescuers devised a plan by placing a humane trap filled with treats near the trailer. After catching a whiff of the food, Jersey began to approach the trap. Just as he was about to step in, a neighbor unintentionally startled him, causing the frightened pup to bolt. The neighbor chased after him, but this only heightened Jersey’s fear as he desperately sought to escape.
“He literally scaled [an] 8-foot wall and ended up in a construction site. I was in shock — he is a small dog, and he scaled 8 [feet],” Hall recounted. She peered over the wall to search for Jersey, but he was nowhere to be seen.
Determined to rescue him, Hall and Nakiso returned to Jersey’s favorite spot, spending the night hoping he would come back. The next morning, Hall spotted him making his way down the street and quickly set another humane trap near his chosen bushes, watching from a distance to avoid startling him.
A New Beginning
Tempted by the enticing aroma of hot dogs, the hungry pup ventured into the crate, marking a crucial moment as he finally found safety. Overjoyed, Hall transported Jersey to Camino Pet Hospital, where he received a thorough check-up and a significant makeover, including a shave and bath to remove his matted fur.
Realizing he was surrounded by caring individuals, Jersey began to relax. After being medically cleared, he was ready to find his forever home. Second Leash On Life, a San Diego-based rescue organization, took him in and assisted in finding him the loving family he deserved.
“[L]ook who has been adopted, and his new mama is a professional soccer player. He is beyond LOVED, he is beyond SPOILED,” Hall shared in an update via Facebook.
Jersey quickly adapted to his new forever home, where his caring mom showered him with countless toys and abundant love. With the support of compassionate individuals, Jersey turned his life around, finally leaving behind his sad past and embracing the true affection he had sought all along.
