Rescuers Stunned by the Condition of Two Starving Dogs: Swift Action Needed to Save Them

Date:

Many individuals lack a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by our furry companions. They often perceive only the cheerful dogs belonging to caring owners who take them for daily strolls through urban environments.

Unfortunately, the truth is far more disturbing than it appears. The residents of Natchitoches, Louisiana, witnessed this firsthand when they encountered two dogs living in the area.

The situation was so alarming that they felt compelled to contact the authorities.

“Horrifying”

According to a Facebook post by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, reports indicated two severely neglected dogs just days prior to the release of the post.

“On Friday afternoon, August 23, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m., deputies from the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau responded to complaints of alleged animal neglect at the 100 block of Pecan Court in Cedar Grove Sub-division, near Natchitoches, La.”

According to the complaint, witnesses described the dogs as so malnourished they were considered “horrifying” to see.

The deputies quickly proceeded to the location to verify the claims, discovering an even bleaker scenario than anticipated.

The deputies discovered two malnourished Pit Bulls “tied to a fence, their ribs and spines visible, without food or water.”

“The dogs looked frail, with one exhibiting skin lesions, seemingly having not eaten for days and living in conditions described as deplorable by the investigating officers,” they reported.

In response, the deputies acted swiftly, and soon the NPSO Animal Services Unit arrived on the scene to take the dogs for assessment.

Justice Will Be Served

Once the dogs were secured, deputies initiated an investigation to locate the owner. As no one was present at the time, the inquiry proceeded into the evening.

Eventually, they identified the owner as Alvin Metoyer and encountered him around 8:45 p.m. when he returned home.

In the post, it was noted that Metoyer claimed the dogs were not eating because they were ill. However, deputies collected enough evidence to proceed with an arrest.

“Alvin J. Metoyer, 47, of the 100 block of Pecan Court Drive, Natchitoches was taken into custody and booked at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, facing 2 counts of Animal Cruelty.” They added: “Metoyer is currently held in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center with a bond established by a 10th Judicial District Judge at $20,000.00.”

Ultimately, justice will be served, which is the most significant aspect of this situation. It’s also a powerful reminder to anyone who abuses or contemplates abusing their pets.

The state will not tolerate such actions!
