Virginia Vets Come Together at the Table to Witness Something Extraordinary

Date:

The moment of birth is undeniably one of the most cherished experiences.

The team at a shelter in West Virginia fully understands this. That’s why, when a lovely Greyhound was ready to give birth to her puppies, they came together to welcome the newcomers with open hearts.

With many puppies to care for, it was a collaborative effort by all staff members.

Welcome To The World

When a patient at Cross Lanes Vet’s office required an emergency C-section, all available staff scrubbed in, gathered the necessary supplies, and anxiously awaited the arrival of the puppies!

As the puppies entered the world, they were gently passed to the staff who performed a quick health check and a little bath.

Once the last puppy was safely delivered, the West Virginia surgeon completed the surgery and confirmed its success.

With all puppies in excellent health, the medical team turned their attention to the mother, ensuring she had a swift recovery!

The adorable family is now bonding, with their mother ensuring their fur is clean and their bellies are full. I’m certain that when the time comes, each of these puppies will find a loving home where they will be cherished and respected.

Doggo Labor 101

If you have a soon-to-be mother dog, here are some tips to create a safe and cozy environment for her labor.

Quiet and private space: Choose a tranquil area in your home where the mother dog can feel secure and undisturbed. This will help reduce her anxiety and allow her to feel relaxed.

Keep it clean: Ensure the area remains clean and hygienic to prevent infections. Regularly change and wash the bedding, and have fresh towels or papers readily available for easy cleanup.

You are the midwife: Be ready to assist if needed, but give her space if she doesn’t require it. Trust that she knows what to do!

Emergency contact: Always have your vet’s phone number on hand in case of emergencies. Familiarize yourself with the birthing process so you can respond quickly in case of complications!

Post-birth care: Once the pups arrive, ensure the mother is comfortable and nursing them. Provide her with fresh water and nutritious food, as she will need proper nourishment. Consider having the vet come by for a quick checkup to make sure everything is alright!

By following these guidelines and being well-prepared, you can help create a safe and welcoming environment for the puppies to enter the world healthily and happily, laying the groundwork for a wonderful life ahead!
