This is the story of Lady – a charming dog who, unfortunately, faced abandonment. Her previous family decided to leave her at the shelter because they no longer wanted her.
Life In A Shelter
Once at the shelter, Lady longed for the only home she had ever known. She became a disheartened and anxious pup, wishing for the return of her owners.
Sadly, with each passing day and no adoption in sight, Lady’s name was placed on the euthanasia list. She was just two years old.
Fortunately, a compassionate woman named Shelly visited the shelter and met Lady. She recognized the joy and potential within her.
When Shelly learned that Lady was scheduled for euthanasia that very day, she was taken aback and vehemently disagreed with the decision.
Without hesitation, she contacted the rescue and urgently requested that they save Lady. Shelly was certain that this sweet dog would bring happiness to someone’s life.
Thanks to Shelly, Lady was saved and found a temporary home with her foster mom.
Lady Finds Her Human
At the time, Amy and her roommate were looking to adopt a dog. When Lady bounded into the parking lot to greet them, she showered them with kisses immediately.
“Lady jumped out of the car and came right up to us, smothering us with kisses. She rolled over to ask for belly rubs and was just the sweetest. We fell in love with her right then and there,” shared Amy.
They were completely enchanted by her, and it was clear that Lady was the dog they had been hoping to find.
From that moment on, Lady and Amy were inseparable. Amy felt a deep connection with Lady, as if she understood her in ways no other dog could. In her new home, Lady felt loved and treasured like never before.
Adopting Gus
Amy had always dreamed of having two dogs. Upon hearing about Gus, she felt compelled to meet him, despite the rescue’s warning about his anxiety, which had driven him to jump through a glass window once.
Amy was determined to support Gus in overcoming his past traumas and become the dog he was destined to be. At first sight, his loving eyes captured her heart.
After adopting him, Gus was aloof and uninterested in Lady at first.
Recognizing his need for space, Amy allowed him time to settle in. His fears stemmed from cars and being left alone. With her gentle approach, Amy patiently helped Gus address his anxieties.
The pivotal moment in their bond came during Gus’s first thunderstorm. That night, he was visibly distressed, panting and drooling. In a moment of vulnerability, he sought comfort in his mother’s embrace. This was the first time he turned to her for solace.
Gus also found comfort in cuddling with Lady, who provided a sense of calm and security. She licked his face affectionately, reassuring him that all was well. Gus felt a wave of relief wash over him; his fears began to fade.
Their Happily-Ever-After
Amy feels incredibly fortunate to have both Lady and Gus in her life. They are her family, and she cannot envision her life without them. Both Lady and Gus were abandoned and left behind by their former families.
“These two dogs had families that once loved them, who brought them to shelters and said they no longer wanted them. It broke their hearts. My priority is to show them they are here to stay. They are my family, and I love them. I will never leave them.”
