Patience’s life was far from easy. Just two years ago, she was a spirited shelter dog in New Jersey with a forever home on the horizon. Unfortunately, her dreams shattered when her adopters decided to abandon her after less than a year, leaving her feeling lost and hopeless.
Instead of waiting for a brighter tomorrow, she withdrew from the world, isolating herself in the corner of her small kennel, facing the wall. This heart-wrenching sight left her caregivers devastated, prompting them to do everything they could to help her emerge from her despair.
The Sight That Breaks Hearts
Patience’s tragic condition stirred the hearts of volunteers from SNARR Northeast in New York. Witnessing her sitting with her back to everything in a crowded New Jersey shelter, they rushed to her aid. “In a crowded, chaotic city shelter in New Jersey, Patience sat alone, facing the wall, frozen with fear,” SNARR Northeast expressed on Instagram.
However, delving into Patience’s story revealed a deeper heartbreak. She wasn’t just hopeless; she was mentally defeated, incapable of lifting her head to meet the eyes of potential adopters, instead remaining bowed in sorrow.
“She’s shut down, mentally defeated, and lost. Patience doesn’t look at anyone because she doesn’t believe anyone sees her,” the rescue detailed.
Later, after being adopted into a loving home, Patience was discovered wandering the streets of New Jersey, alone and severely injured. Although the full details of her past remained unclear, her caregivers surmised that she may have been struck by a car, resulting in a spinal injury and loss of her peripheral vision. She could only see directly in front of her.
Fortunately, the compassionate team at SNARR Northeast believed in her. Understanding that Patience needed a serene environment to recover and rebuild, they tirelessly sought the perfect foster home. Ultimately, they found the ideal place for her!

Who could have expected that a dog so shattered and traumatized would undergo such a remarkable transformation in a short time? With attentive foster care and plenty of love, this sweet Pittie girl soon revealed her true colors, blossoming into a quirky and joyful companion who savors every moment spent with her loving humans.
Patience is on the verge of beginning her neurological treatment. In the meantime, she will savor the joys of being a beloved pet in a warm home, surrounded by understanding caregivers. Most importantly, she will never need to fear returning to that small kennel again!
