The mission of a rescuer goes beyond the act of rescuing; it encompasses a comprehensive care process. Dogs, like Maurice—an adorable little pup saved from the streets of Los Angeles—need proper nurturing in a loving environment, which includes a balanced diet, veterinary care, training in social skills, and sometimes even extensive grooming after enduring neglect.
He Was Found Just In Time
Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy rescue in Irvine, California, received a distress call about a severely matted dog in need of immediate assistance while she was on another rescue mission. Unable to reach the location quickly, she sent her fellow volunteers—Karla, Yamileth, and Nunez Aky—to scout the area.
They soon located Maurice, trembling and hiding under a car, his face obscured by layers of matted fur. Describing Maurice’s condition, Hall poignantly remarked in a Facebook post: “Poor baby covered in dreadlocks and carrying a heavy past of never knowing love.” According to the rescuers, Maurice had lived on the streets with a homeless owner, suffering great neglect and trauma, which caused him to distrust people deeply.
Instead of rushing into their arms, he remained hidden under the car, clearly startled. As Aky noted on Facebook: “I feel in my heart that he suffered a lot in the hands of a homeless person because the owner said that he had left for a long time and came back but didn’t let anyone touch him.”
With patience, the rescuers coaxed Maurice out from under the vehicle using soothing words and tasty treats, gradually gaining his trust. Eventually, they managed to place a leash around his neck and safely moved him away from his distressing environment. This moment marked the start of a transformative journey for Maurice.
A Brand-New Dog With The Cutest Underbite
After taking Maurice to a local veterinary clinic for a thorough examination and treatment, the last important step was to shave off his tangled fur and reveal the adorable pup underneath. A long grooming session later, Maurice emerged as a brand-new dog, showcasing his charming underbite that melted everyone’s heart!
Excitement filled the air as Hall and her team marveled at the transformed Maurice, who was now ready to embrace life to the fullest. As Hall expressed in an update post: “Today is the beginning of a whole new life. A past stripped away.” Maurice is now in a foster home, receiving the love and care he deserves, and he hopes to find a forever family soon. After a challenging start, experiencing the joys of being a loved dog is what Maurice truly longs for.
