Dogs come into this world to be loved without limits, yet it is heartbreaking that some cruel individuals abuse them, instilling fear in their hearts. Mable, a beautiful pup, never knew the gentle touch of a loving human. Instead, her abusive owners left her terrified and distrustful of humanity. Fortunately, she was rescued and brought to a shelter.
The shelter staff were devastated upon seeing Mable for the first time; she trembled with fear, her eyes clouded with sadness. Despite their attempts to comfort her, she shied away, expecting to be hurt again. This frightened creature had yet to discover what love truly meant.
Mable Meets Her Foster Mom
Angela Marie, the founder of Angela’s Ark, a rescue in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an animal sanctuary in Wyoming, met Mable and immediately noticed the overwhelming fear in her beautiful eyes. “When I first saw her, you could see it in her eyes. It’s like she wanted to disappear,” Angela shared with The Dodo.
The compassionate rescuer decided to foster Mable in hopes of helping her heal. Angela set up a crate for the pup to decompress but Mable would retreat to a corner, shaking and avoiding eye contact whenever her foster mom approached.
Angela took Mable to the beach, hoping to ease her fears, yet Mable remained tense and unable to relax on walks, constantly bracing for something bad to happen. Her ears were back and tail tucked, a reminder of her past trauma.
Trying To Mend Mable’s Broken Heart
Determined to help Mable, Angela sat on the floor with her, hand-feeding and lavishing her with praise and encouragement. Slowly, Mable began to trust her foster mom, though she still flinched at any attempt at touch. After months of effort, Angela started to notice small milestones in Mable’s progress.
Mable amazed Angela when she joyfully sprinted in their yard, finally letting go of her past. Angela felt ecstatic and could hardly believe how far Mable had come. The pup began to relax and enjoy her walks, her tail no longer tucked as she appreciated her newfound freedom.
Rejoicing At The Pup’s Milestones
Angela will forever cherish the moment Mable first invited her to play, approaching with a beaming smile, jumping, and wagging her tail. This was the first milestone in their relationship. Mable needed time to embrace Angela’s love and learn that she was safe.
“The first time I was able to pet Mable, I sat down next to her, gently stroking her hand and then pulling away. I repeated this so she could get accustomed to my presence and realize it wouldn’t hurt,” Angela reflected. She is proud of Mable’s progress.
“My favorite part of this experience is seeing who Mable has become compared to the dog she was in the shelter. I see less of that fearful dog with every passing day. I’m immensely proud of her for every little milestone,” Angela emphasized.
After almost a year with her incredible foster mom, Mable is now ready to seek her forever family. The pup hopes to find loving humans who will understand, support, and love her endlessly.
