Couple Surrenders Dog Due to Fear Over Breed After Expecting a Baby

Date:

When a lovely Pit Bull named Shelly was brought to a shelter because her family was expecting a baby, she felt lost, saddened, and betrayed.

Sadly, since it’s challenging for dogs of her breed to find new homes, Shelly found herself on the list for euthanasia just three weeks after being taken in by the shelter.

Shelly had almost abandoned hope of ever having a forever family until an extraordinary human learned about her dire situation and decided to change her fate completely.

A Second Chance

Upon discovering that she was scheduled for euthanasia the very next morning and “had to be out of the building that day,” Lacey, Shelly’s new owner, immediately opened her heart and home to her.

“Sadly, there are countless pit breeds in shelters that are perfectly healthy but often overlooked,” Lacey shared with Newsweek.

Being an enthusiastic volunteer at the shelter, Lacey realized that Shelly could bring joy to many people if given the opportunity. Hence, she decided to take her in and help her out.

“We wanted to foster because I knew she could find a great home if only given more time,” she elaborated.

Over time, Lacey’s instincts proved correct; however, not in the way she expected when she first agreed to foster Shelly.

“We had just adopted a new dog, so we initially thought bringing in two more on top of that would be overwhelming. But Shelly and our other new dog got along splendidly and felt secure with each other. They formed a bond almost immediately. Their shared good behavior and friendliness towards both dogs and people made it evident that keeping them together was the right decision,” Lacey recalled.

Ultimately, Shelly became part of a family that loved and cherished her for her true self.

Shelly adores her new canine brother and her family, making it a point to greet everyone she meets with joy!

Now, she is living the dream life every dog hopes for! Her days are filled with joyful playdates, cherished memories, and thrilling escapades.

Challenging Prejudice

My heart swells knowing this sweet girl was not only granted a second chance at life but also found her happily ever after.

However, it’s heartbreaking to realize that her initial predicament stemmed from the prejudice surrounding her breed.

Many people can be swift to judge Pit Bulls based on the stereotypes that surround them.

Let it be known that these affectionate beings are not more dangerous than other breeds. They are incredibly gentle, loyal, and loving companions who go above and beyond to keep their humans smiling.

It is essential to dismantle these prejudices and understand that every dog, irrespective of their breed, deserves love and respect!
