Unfortunately, many dogs experience heartbreak when their families abandon them.
Babs was one such abandoned pup, left feeling lost and dejected as she wandered the streets of Dayton, Texas.
The dog became wary of people, instinctively avoiding them. Lacking care, Babs developed mange.
A compassionate passerby noticed her lingering near a snow cone stand and contact Kristen Erwin, a dog rescuer, who rushed to help.
A Kind Soul Rescues Babs
Upon arriving at the address, Erwin found Babs lying on someone’s porch.
She appeared malnourished with irritated skin; the poor dog was nearly hairless, with only a few tufts of fur remaining.
Seeing her plight, Erwin’s heart filled with sorrow.
She called out to the frightened dog, encouraging her to come closer, but Babs was too fearful. The despair evident on her face was utterly heartbreaking.
Determined, Erwin devised a strategy to coax Babs into a crate.
She set a baited trap with tasty treats, hoping the hungry dog would venture close.
Hungry and desperate for food, Babs slowly approached the crate and entered, drawn in by the delicious scent.
As soon as Babs spotted Erwin approaching her, she grew alarmed and began to circle within the crate.
Erwin gently reassured Babs, assuring her that she would help her recover.
Babs was taken to the vet for a thorough examination, where it was revealed she tested positive for heartworm, leading to an immediate treatment plan.
A Houston-based non-profit, ThisIsHouston, generously covered her medical expenses.
Receiving Abundant Love
Erwin brought the pup into her home to foster her.
Once inside, Babs’ fear and mistrust began to dissipate. She sensed she was in a safe environment.
Babs allowed Erwin to snuggle with her, feeling the warmth and love embrace her.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect when I brought her home. But it turned out she was incredibly sweet, simply wanted affection and attention. She was very loving and seemed genuinely grateful to be off the streets and away from the Texas heat. It didn’t take long for her to bond with us,” Erwin shared with The Dodo.
Erwin’s family showered Babs with hugs, treated her with medicated baths, and provided all the love she had missed.
Babs now felt at peace, surrounded by wonderful humans. No longer alone, her face radiated happiness.
Over time, her skin began to heal, growing smoother and healthier.
Babs’ Remarkable Transformation
With her black fur growing back, Babs transformed into a stunning and fluffy Poodle.
She looked like a brand-new dog, radiating confidence and joy.
Once fully healed, Babs was prepared to find her forever home.
Her new family followed her journey from the start, having fallen in love with her story, and they quickly submitted an adoption application after her rescue.
Overjoyed, Babs eagerly ran into her family’s arms as she embarked on her new life.
Babs embraced her new chapter, relishing the affection her family bestowed upon her.
“She is truly thriving. She has a new dog sibling to play with and two human siblings that adore her. Her family is amazed by how sweet and gentle she is,” Erwin noted.
I couldn’t be happier for Babs. This sweet dog finally has everything she ever desired.
