While driving through a bustling Texas highway, seasoned rescuer Kristin Erwin spotted something moving in the bush that compelled her to slam on the brakes.
Upon exiting her vehicle, she discovered a whole family of furry creatures seeking refuge from the rain on the roadside.
The exhausted mother dog lay vigilantly watching her six playful puppies, completely oblivious to the precarious situation they were in.
As soon as the mother dog caught sight of Erwin, her eyes conveyed a profound sense of sorrow.
Erwin instantly understood the depth of despair the mother felt.
The Canine Family In Need Of Help
Determined to ensure the safety of the canine family, the devoted rescuer pressed on.
She later discovered that animal control had been trying to rescue this family for over a year, but the wary mother had consistently evaded capture.
As Erwin approached, the family fled from their hiding spot.
The compassionate rescuer began to quietly follow the mother and her pups from a distance.
“Mom was cautious around people, but she did her utmost to protect her little ones,” Erwin shared on her TikTok.
When the canines ventured into a crate left for them, Erwin swiftly crept in and secured the door.
With the mother and her puppies now secured, she let out a sigh of relief.
As the door lacked a latch, Erwin sat beside the crate and called a friend for assistance.
The mama dog appeared confused and despondent, still unaware that her and her pups’ lives were on the verge of a significant change.
Decompressing In A Loving Home
Erwin welcomed the furry family into her home.
Initially, the mother dog was apprehensive and distrustful of her rescuer, gazing at Erwin with anxiety.
However, when she observed that Erwin was gentle with her puppies, the rescuer felt hopeful that she would earn the dog’s trust.
“She allows me to care for her adorable puppies and change their bedding. These are promising signs. She just needs more time to feel secure,” Erwin shared in a Facebook post.
The pups relished being with their mother in the warmth of the home, snuggling up to her and showering her with affection.
At first, the mama dog was reluctant to leave the crate and resisted going outside.
The big-hearted rescuer was diligent, working to help the mother feel comfortable and welcomed. She offered her food, and showered her with kindness and positive encouragement.
Erwin was thrilled when the mama dog began to wag her tail and permitted her rescuer to snuggle with her.
Little by little, Erwin earned the dog’s trust and managed to carry her outside.
Hoping To Find Their Happiness
Realizing she could trust Erwin, the mother dog felt a surge of hope.
No longer appearing despondent and distrustful, she started to smile and absorbed all the affection coming from her rescuer.
“She was so exhausted and ready for assistance. Now we can celebrate all her progress and remind her of how cherished she is,” Erwin wrote.
Forgotten Coast Animal Rescue, based in Houston, Texas, took responsibility for the brave mother dog and her pups.
Once the canine family feels prepared, they will begin the search for their forever homes.
It is hoped they will find loving families who will lavish upon them the endless affection every dog deserves.
