Woman Stunned to Discover a Scared and Injured Pitbull Abandoned Beneath an Overpass

Date:

Based in Texas, a remarkable dog and cat rescue organization known as Three Little Pitties Rescue was mentioned in a Facebook update regarding a dog that had been left abandoned beneath a freeway overpass.

Owing to a language difference and an inadequate translation of the location, the precise location of the dog was uncertain.

Regardless of the challenges, Lindsey from the rescue organization set out, hoping to locate the distressed dog.

In the end, she successfully discovered the dog and enlisted the help of three other dedicated rescuers to assist her in rescuing this deeply frightened and injured animal.

The Rescue Operation

Lindsey instantly recognized that something was severely amiss with the dog.

“From the first sighting, it looked like her foot had been entirely severed,” she remarked.

They were uncertain how long she had been suffering from the injury or when she had been abandoned there, but it was possible she had been harmed while being discarded or tossed from a vehicle.

Regardless, this unfortunate dog had been cruelly neglected and had endured immense pain.

Merely looking into her eyes revealed the significant distress she was in. She appeared utterly exhausted, weary of her circumstances.

Lindsey was overwhelmed with questions, such as “How long has she been underneath that bridge?” and “What did she endure to reach this state?”, but the essential focus was on providing help as quickly as possible.

It took the rescuers approximately 30 minutes to soothe her and get her into their vehicle. She had difficulty moving due to the overwhelming pain.

She also exhibited signs of fear and was whimpering from her pain, which shattered their hearts. Nevertheless, she did wag her tail once she began to feel secure with her rescuers.

Since it was fairly late, they hurried to take her to an emergency veterinary clinic.

Attempting to Save Her

As they hurried the precious Pittie, later named Lucie Caboose, to the emergency veterinary clinic in Galveston, TX, her condition began to decline, and she was in even more distress.

“I could hear her cry, and it was so heart-wrenching,” Lindsey expressed.

Lucie was diagnosed with Pyometra – a perilous uterine infection due to her not being spayed.

In addition to her uterine issues, she was also facing severe infections in her body, affecting her heart, liver, kidneys, and foot, along with a critical heartworm condition. She was put on strong antibiotics to combat these illnesses.

The veterinarians were unable to perform any surgeries due to her weakened heart condition. One day she would show improvement, only for another setback to occur the next.

Lucie fought valiantly for her life, but ultimately, the situation became overwhelming for her.

Regrettably, after more than $6,000 in expenses and several weeks at the veterinary hospital, the infection advanced to her bones and bloodstream.

“She passed peacefully, surrounded by so much love that I hope she felt. She deserved more. 💔 She was entitled to a family that loved her, snuggled her, and attended to her needs,” Three Little Pitties Rescue shared in a Facebook post.

Despite their best efforts, they were unable to save her.

Though her suffering became unbearable, she was at least surrounded by those who cared for her deeply, and I sincerely hope she felt that love.

“Lucie, we are deeply sorry for what you endured. We regret that your owners let you down. We wish we could have saved you. We fought so hard for you. We loved you, and your existence mattered.”

Texas is unfortunately facing a crisis of abandoned pets, leading to persistent overcrowding in shelters.

Let Lucie’s story serve as a powerful reminder that no dog deserves such treatment; no animal should have to experience such torment.

Lucie, we hope you are now free from pain and filled with happiness.
