This couldn’t be truer for Pork Roll, the sweetest American Bully you’ll meet today!

A Challenging Beginning

Porky was initially purchased as a puppy from a breeder in Virginia by his first family. After two happy years in their home, they decided to give him up due to “some skin problems.”

It turned out that the real issue behind Porky’s abandonment was that he was forty pounds overweight.

Fortunately, the South of the Bully organization from Charlotte, North Carolina, stepped in. With the support of these compassionate rescuers, Porky got back on his path to recovery.

“It turned out that his weight was the root cause of the skin issues. Once he lost the pounds, the rashes cleared up. He’s currently at 65 lbs and looking fantastic!” Skip shared on Instagram.

Before long, he was primed for a new forever home, and that moment finally arrived!

The Perfect Family Discovered

Skip and Graham, a couple from Asheville, North Carolina, fell for Pork Roll the moment they laid eyes on him. At the time, they already had two dogs – a senior female named Athena and a rescue boy named Dime, and they wanted to add a third to their furry family.

Adding Porky into their lives turned out to be the best decision!

In no time, this sweet, hippo-like Bully felt right at home, as if he had always been part of the family.

He accepted Athena as a mother figure and Dime as his partner in adventure. With them, he transformed into the silliest and most confident boy, who finally attained the love he had been searching for all along.

That’s when his true personality began to shine!

Graham and Skip are overjoyed to witness Porky’s quirky traits and habits shape him into the neediest, most affectionate dog ever.

Whenever his parents leave a room, he starts to whine. And, if something catches his eye, you’ll hear some more peculiar and amusing sounds!

Porky is completely devoted to everyone in his family, and he expresses that affection unreservedly! He’s always nearby, ready to shower his loved ones with cuddles.

Even on days when Dime or Athena aren’t in the mood for his snuggles, he presses on, making sure his dog siblings know he loves them without a doubt.

Sadly, after a lovely life with his family in North Carolina, Athena, his furry sister, passed away, leaving the family devastated.

As a role model to Porky, he was heartbroken over losing his companion. However, from that moment, the bond with Dime grew even stronger, as the two spent every minute together on new adventures!

Then, tragedy struck again.

Both Dime and later Porky were diagnosed with serious health problems that greatly affected their quality of life.

Dime faces an ongoing struggle with degenerative myelopathy, while Porky is afflicted with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) leading to paralysis.

Despite being young and the fact that IVDD is not common in his breed, this sweet Bully boy required immediate surgery.

“We had heard about IVDD but were unaware of the specifics or the severity it could pose, even in young dogs,” his family shared on Instagram.

Currently, Porky is making remarkable progress thanks to regular therapy and medication. He’s a true warrior with so much life left ahead of him.

“We’re hopeful that someday he will stand, walk, run, and play again,” they mentioned in an Instagram post.

Given time, this wiggly, joyful hippo boy will undoubtedly be back to sprinting and jumping in no time! He certainly deserves it!
