Dogs have one true love in their lives: their owners. Unfortunately, many people sever that bond cruelly, opting for abandonment instead of the basic courtesy of surrendering their pets to a shelter. This heartbreaking reality recently impacted a large 75-pound dog in Southern California when his owner cruelly tossed him from a car, leaving him alone and confused in the middle of traffic.
He Had Nowhere To Go
The dog frantically circled around, still in shock from being abandoned. Fortunately, a local rescuer named Mary noticed the situation and immediately informed Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, a Californian rescue organization. As Hall noted in a Facebook post, “When he first got thrown out he was so confused, running around in circles in traffic.”
As Mary approached, she noticed the dog was very skittish and fearful, forcing him to stay on the street where he had been abandoned. His situation worsened as he attempted to cross the busy road, nearly getting injured by a large Jeep.
“He is literally 75 pounds and so big but so scared. A huge jeep with huge tires literally went over him. Thank God the jeep was so high off the ground,” she mentioned in her post.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, Hall worked with fellow rescuers Karla, Yamileth, and Nunez, who quickly arrived on scene to help befriend the frightened dog. They managed to lure him into a fenced yard using enticing treats, providing him safety, although he was still in shock.
Heading Toward A New Beginning
The pup was named Benji, and he was finally on his way to a new beginning. After being gently lifted into a vehicle, Benji embarked on a journey toward recovery.
For Suzette, this moment marked the end of Benji’s fear and suffering. “They got him into a yard and shut the gate. My heart was so happy. The fear and terror he had been through was over. And this big hunk of pure love was finally safe,” Hall stated.
Thanks to the care of his rescuers, Benji will now experience love and safety for the first time, far removed from the cruelty of the streets. For now, he will be in foster care, meeting new friends and socializing with other dogs. When the time comes, Benji will be searching for a forever home filled with joy, laughter, and love, a luxury he truly deserves!
