Maryland Shelter Pup Saved from Euthanasia Finds Hope After Rescuers Discover She Has a Microchip

Date:

Sadly, shelters are currently overcrowded, forcing many dogs to spend their days in dark, cold kennels rather than in the warmth of a loving home. To complicate the situation, many shelters are reaching capacity limits, and despite their best efforts, employees are sometimes compelled to place dogs on euthanasia lists.

Such was the case for one Pit Bull, Ivy, who found herself in a Maryland shelter where she was slated for euthanasia soon after arrival. However, a miracle occurred when her microchip provided essential details that changed her fate.

Shocking, Yet Amazing Realization

Upon discovering Ivy’s situation, the team at Laila’s Legacy Animal Rescue decided to take action. When Ivy first arrived at the shelter, she was severely emaciated, suffering from skin issues and wounds on her legs and paws. However, their resolve to help her strengthened when they uncovered something remarkable about her through the microchip.

Despite looking youthful, Ivy’s microchip revealed that she was actually 19 years old, a shocking yet wonderful revelation that filled the rescue team with hope. They shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, depicting Ivy in the arms of a caring individual, her face beaming with joy as she seemed to sense that her grim fate had been averted.

“We’re so happy we could bust her out today before being euthanized over the holiday weekend,” they shared in the video caption. This emotionally captivating video drew numerous reactions, with one user commenting, “19?! That’s amazing. So happy she will have a home to live out her golden years.” Another added, “I can’t believe she’s actually 19! What a perfect love.” A third wrote, “Look at that tail wag and that smile on her face!!! 😭☺️😍”

Happiest Ending

In the same video, the rescue group mentioned that Ivy still required a full-time foster to aid in her recovery process. Shortly after, @the_chalk_house_of_mutts generously stepped up and offered Ivy a foster home. There, Ivy revealed her love for tennis yet struggled with interactions with other dogs. The fosters focused on improving this behavior during her time with them, and after over a hundred days in their care, Ivy wore a joyful smile and enhanced her relationships with other dogs.

After 113 days in a caring foster home, the most exciting news arrived on October 28—an amazing family fell in love with Ivy and chose to provide her with a forever home.

From a dog deemed unadoptable to a cherished pet, Ivy’s journey exemplifies the power of love and compassion. Thanks to the tireless efforts of her rescuers and one crucial detail from her microchip, she will now enjoy her golden years surrounded by love.

“Love you Ivy, we are forever grateful to you for so many happy memories!” they concluded in the video caption.
