Some life events are particularly memorable, such as graduating college, getting married, or having a child. Moving into a new house or apartment also belongs on that list. While such occasions are special in themselves, sometimes unexpected surprises can make them even more unforgettable. This was the case for Matt Garcia and his wife when they relocated to their new home in Tennessee; in addition to being charmed by the house, they were astonished by an unusual furry surprise they encountered.
Unexpected Guest

When Matt Garcia and his wife first visited their new Tennessee home, they anticipated that they might be surprised by the house’s beauty. To their astonishment, they found something entirely unexpected—a ginger pup happily sleeping next to the front door. This Basset Hound had made himself quite comfortable on their lawn, as if it were his own house. Being avid dog lovers, Matt and his wife were thrilled by the sight but a bit puzzled. Matt remarked, “We found this little buddy in our planter, just kind of sleeping. He’s fine, but we don’t know what to do with him. We fed him, we gave him water. There’s no tag on that collar though… unfortunately.”
“What should I do with this sweet ol dog????” he captioned the video he shared on TikTok, referring to him.

His TikTok followers quickly responded with suggestions. One user wrote, “Get him scanned at a local vet for a microchip 🤷🏼♀️.” Another advised, “Put a bed on that porch for that baby,” while a third remarked, “CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW DOG AND HIS HOME.” To which Matt replied, “Update posted!”
“A Pretty Good Routine”
Days after his initial video, Matt shared a follow-up detailing what he found out about the Basset Hound. Surprisingly, the dog named Copper wasn’t a stray—he lived a couple of miles away across the train tracks. Viewers were relieved to learn that Copper had a home, but some expressed concern over the owners allowing him to wander, especially given the proximity of dangerous train tracks.

Despite the concerns, Copper returned to visit Matt and his wife a few days later. In his latest TikTok, he expressed joy at seeing his furry friend again, with viewers sharing in the delight.

In the latest TikTok, viewers saw the joy on Matt’s face as Copper returned. Comments from viewers emphasized the importance of providing Copper with a loving home, prompting Matt to reassure them: “So far, he seems to have himself a pretty good routine from what we can tell… he comes by, gets pets and love, plus water & a little food—then he usually falls RIGHT to sleep.” This is truly all a dog needs in life. 😀
