The plight of black shelter Pitties struggling to find a loving forever home is a persistent issue in shelters across the nation. Unfortunately, these gorgeous dogs continue to be overlooked due to their coat color, similar to their unfortunate feline counterparts.
This neglect results in many of these beautiful pups never finding a home, with a significant number ultimately facing euthanasia.
One particular Pittie named Arlo was near death’s door at a shelter in Bakersfield, California. He was repeatedly passed over by potential adopters until a compassionate woman decided to intervene and change his fate!
Arlo’s Journey

Donna Clark, from Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue, located in Roseburg, Oregon, received an urgent call from a transporter regarding Arlo. He informed her that this black Pittie mix was on the verge of euthanasia, alongside several other dogs, unless someone stepped up quickly.
Without hesitation, Clark agreed to rescue Arlo along with another dog, mindful of the difficulties in finding a home for a black Pittie.
“Among dog breeds, black pit bulls are the hardest to adopt out,” Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue noted on their Facebook page.

Arlo quickly showcased his playful and exuberant spirit, winning the hearts of everyone around him.
He soon found a loving family, but sadly, just a month later, they returned him. They were concerned that his high energy levels would pose a risk to their children, leading him back to the shelter.
“They returned him due to his energetic antics, as the wife feared he might hurt one of their kids,” the S2SAR team shared in a Facebook post.

Clark felt devastated seeing Arlo back in the shelter after he had just found his home.
Arlo appeared confused as to why he was returned and displayed signs of depression until he was given a second chance – a wonderful foster home with a caring mom dedicated to helping him get back on his paws.
The Long-Awaited Day

Arlo took some time to adjust, but he soon regained his playful spirit in his foster home. His quirky and joyful nature emerged again, indicating that he was ready for another chance at finding his forever home.
Despite his sweet demeanor, Clark and her team sought a loving adopter who could provide ample time and energy for Arlo – ideally someone with a spacious, fenced yard and a heart full of love.
Though it seemed like a long shot, the awaited day finally came!

A woman came to meet Arlo and instantly fell for his endearing nature. Without a moment’s hesitation, she welcomed him into her family!
“We are absolutely thrilled for our beautiful boy and feel a great sense of accomplishment that we successfully placed the hardest type of dog there is out there,” his caregivers expressed on Facebook.
Alongside his new humans, Arlo now has a sister who was adopted from the Central Point shelter. Today, these two are relishing life to the fullest, running around in the yard and savoring every moment!
Clark is overjoyed to witness Arlo finally thriving with his forever family. After all his struggles, he truly deserves all the love he can get!
