When selecting a dog to adopt, breed is often a crucial factor. Many people, including myself, have specific preferences—German Shepherds, Labradors, and Golden Retrievers are among my favorites. However, I understand the importance of sheltering any dog in need. Similarly, Kailah Pink has always had a soft spot for Dalmatians and was thrilled to find a Craigslist ad for one, prompting her to adopt Bobbie.
A Really Big Surprise
Excitedly, Pink drove an hour to fetch her new Dalmatian, Bobbie, and bring her to her forever home in California. Having researched the breed, she had high expectations for Bobbie’s energy levels, which proved accurate. One day, while enjoying the outdoors together, an unfortunate incident occurred: Bobbie accidentally swallowed a bee. Swiftly, Pink reacted and rushed Bobbie to the vet.
At the vet, Pink learned that Bobbie’s bee incident was the least of her concerns. After thorough examinations, the vet discovered that Bobbie had giardia, a bacterial infection from contaminated water. It was critical that she received treatment promptly.
Bobbie Is A Special Dog
Pink’s vet visit cost her $800, and subsequent treatments continued to add up. In addition to giardia, Bobbie had a broken toe that required attention. After being spayed, she also burst her stitches, necessitating further care. Given Bobbie’s susceptibility to infections and kidney stones, Pink must provide her with a specific diet that includes chicken eggs, quail eggs, lamb, chicken, salmon, duck, and vegetables. She also discovered that Bobbie is allergic to certain meats, such as beef and turkey, which made her sick on the occasions she consumed them.
While this recurring expense adds up significantly—totaling approximately $10,000 for Bobbie’s treatments—Pink sees it as a worthwhile investment. She even shared Bobbie’s journey on TikTok, garnering a heartwarming response from viewers. Above all, Pink loves Bobbie dearly and would not hesitate to do it all over again. Bobbie is a special dog who adores her mom, and they cherish their time spent together, despite the occasional challenges that arise.
Bobbie is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated mom who cares for her every day.
