For this reason, dogs often form surprising friendships in unique places. A Rottweiler’s bond with a neighbor astonished even her owners.
A Friendship That Endures
Emma has been living with her parents, Sammi and Mick, in their high-rise apartment since she was a puppy. Now four years old, this Rottweiler loves spending time on the balcony next to the barrier that separates their space from their neighbor’s.
There’s a compelling reason for this: Emma decided early on to make friends with her neighbor.
Whenever she spotted his shadow, she would become thrilled and rush to the balcony barrier, eagerly waiting to be petted by the friendly hand that would reach out from the other side. Her parents were taken aback by this interaction.
“As a puppy, she would often sniff and peer through the balcony barriers,” Mick shared with Newsweek. “When Em was a few months old, we noticed her eagerly approaching the barriers for pets from the neighbors. We ensured they were okay with her adorable requests and they welcomed her friendly approaches.”
In addition to the sweet bond forged between Emma and her neighbor, something beautiful unfolded – Emma’s parents and the same neighbor, who had previously been strangers, began to socialize as well.
Both friendships flourished over time, and in celebration of this, Emma’s parents decided to share a TikTok video a few years later.
This video also served as a heartfelt farewell to a long-time friend who recently moved out of the apartment. However, there’s no need to fret; his brother moved in and continued the tradition of petting Emma, ensuring the balcony stays her cherished spot.

However, Mick concludes with: “Em absolutely loves getting attention from humans in general, but not just anyone. We’re unsure of her criteria, but her secret friendship with the neighbor is undoubtedly a special connection.”
