Earlier this year, a woman named Mickey and her boyfriend decided to adopt a dog from their local California shelter, hoping to save another happy pup following the loss of their previous dog. Uncertain of finding the right one, they were delighted to come across Demi.
Demi was a beautiful dog, radiating happiness around everyone. Mickey, who chose to remain anonymous, shared with The Dodo: “She was super calm and always had a huge smile on her face.” Despite the chaotic noise of barking dogs around her, Demi remained peaceful: “We walked her around the aisles of the shelter, and not once did she react to the barking dogs. She even walked herself back into her own kennel.” They were completely enchanted by her personality and decided to take her home.
Demi’s Unusual Behavior
Demi was a husky, which made her a larger dog, but that didn’t stop the couple from embracing her with love. Once she settled into her new home, they supported her adjustment, and all seemed well initially. Then suddenly, Demi’s behavior shifted, and she started acting a little unusual.
Mickey remarked: “At first, we didn’t notice anything odd about her behavior, aside from her occasional long naps, which we assumed were just part of her nature. Her energy was fine. However, she then began trying to burrow and den in our closet and even ripped her favorite bed to line up her toys in a row nearby. On one particular morning, she refused to go on her regular early walk.”
Concerned, her new parents took her to a veterinarian clinic in California, where Demi unexpectedly started going into labor. While they had suspected she might be pregnant, they dismissed it because they assumed the shelter staff would have mentioned such an important detail.
