Picture this: a dragon trailing after you wherever you go, safeguarding you at any cost. Pretty amazing, right?
Well, Mary Poppins has a unique twist on that.
And I’m not referring to the movie character. I’m talking about Mary, the Chicken.
In her small domain, also known as her garden, Mary is accompanied by a devoted guardian who cherishes her like royalty – Harper!
Origin Stories
Harper, the dog, along with her sister, became a part of Emilie’s warm-hearted home after discovering they were in need of a place to stay.
They arrived with quite a significant flea infestation, but nothing that couldn’t be resolved with a bit of care and affection. Since Emilie was on the lookout for good livestock guard dogs, she gladly welcomed them.
Simultaneously, Emilie got a call about a blind chicken. The individual who owned a farm and an animal sanctuary was well-versed in caring for blind animals, and she agreed to take the chicken in.
Emilie named the chicken Mary Poppins, unaware that two of her rescues would form an unbreakable bond.
A Duo Like No Other
Sadly, Mary didn’t quite fit in with the other animals on the farm. She faced a lot of bullying, which caused her considerable sadness and distress.
Upon noticing this, Emilie decided to bring her indoors for closer supervision. However, she wasn’t the only one concerned about Mary.
Harper took her role as protector very seriously and began to serve as Mary’s personal bodyguard!
“Mary’s defenseless against predators, so I was hanging out with her in the dirt. Then I noticed Harper just wouldn’t leave. They spent two to three hours in the same spot, not moving, just enjoying each other’s company,” Emilie shared with Cuddle Buddies.
From that point on, Harper followed Mary everywhere, ensuring she stayed out of harm’s way.
When Mary realized she had a big dog protecting her, she felt invincible.
Whenever they were outdoors, Harper would lay down, always leaving room for her beloved friend. She wouldn’t move until Mary chose to leave.
Seeing the affection Harper shows towards Mary warms Emilie’s heart.
“It brings me immense joy to see them so happy together. I’m incredibly thankful for it. With Mary, especially, I appreciate that Harper allows her world to expand and gives her a chance to explore and feel secure,” she remarked. Mary can now enjoy a regular life, discovering everything her heart wishes.
And with her gentle giant by her side, no one dares to harm her!
