Sadly, not all animals experience a joyful start to life.
Many find themselves struggling on the streets, scavenging for food and seeking refuge from harsh weather. Some have faced mistreatment by past owners, leading to a deep mistrust of humans.
Fortunately, there are compassionate individuals who dedicate themselves to rescuing these animals, teaching them that they deserve to be part of a loving family.
This is one such story.
Rebuilding Trust

Upon learning about a dog in need of special care, Lee Asher, the founder of the registered non-profit sanctuary, The Asher House in Estacada, Oregon, took it upon himself to provide that care.
He traveled to the King County animal service to meet a German Shepherd set to be euthanized due to her extreme fear of humans.
Asher aimed to earn her trust and bring her back to his sanctuary, where she could finally experience what it’s like to be loved.

When they met, Asher chose to proceed patiently.
He sat down, gently took the pup’s leash, and encouraged her to come closer. Despite her shyness, the pup approached Asher, even sniffing and licking his hand.

Asher continued to speak to her softly and reassuringly, letting her know it was okay and that she was a wonderful girl.
“You’re a good girl. You’re doing great. You’re going to go home today. Don’t worry. You’re perfect,” he encouraged her in a video on YouTube.
In that moment, the pup was adopted!

Even though the pup was distinctly anxious, Asher successfully helped her into his car, beginning her new journey.
The Role of Rescuers
This story exemplifies the vital need for rescuers.
Asher’s approach to helping this pup was genuinely touching. He made sure she comprehended that she was safe and would never again have to fear humans.
Like many animals welcomed at The Asher House, this pup will undoubtedly emerge from her shell, savoring all the wonderful experiences life has to offer.
Wishing you all the best, sweet pup!
