While driving in rural Elloree, South Carolina, a couple noticed a snake crossing the road and immediately slowed down. Moments later, they spotted a pair of ears peeking above the grass on the roadside. Realizing they needed to help, they rushed to assist the seemingly lifeless creature, discovering it was a puppy in dire straits, completely hairless, emaciated, and covered in mange, in urgent need of medical care.
Saving The Puppy’s Life
The family transported him to Orangeburg County Animal Control and Shelter. Due to overcrowding, they issued a plea on Facebook for a rescue to take him in. The poor puppy was gravely ill, lacking the strength to walk. Fortunately, Labor of Love Transport Rescue responded and agreed to care for him.
A volunteer at the rescue quickly went to pick him up. Just minutes from home, a sudden storm with thunder developed. Upon arrival at the Greenville rescue, staff named the pup Baby Thunder.

At the hospital, he was diagnosed with severe mange. His condition was so critical that survival was uncertain. After receiving treatment, the doctors fought to stabilize him.
Journey To Recovery

His foster family provided him loving care, encouraging him to fight for his recovery. Fortunately, Baby Thunder demonstrated remarkable resilience and strength. During the initial week, he slept a lot while his foster family fed him every few hours and administered medicated baths.
Too weak to walk, he crawled most of the time. Meanwhile, Westie, one of the resident dogs, began playing with Baby Thunder. Despite being scared and confused, Baby Thunder slowly started to connect with Westie, who sensed his need for companionship.

After two weeks, Baby Thunder began to improve. His health steadily progressed, his skin condition improved, and he started walking more confidently.
Within two months of rescue, luxurious fur began to grow on his body, and he formed a close bond with Westie, who became his best friend.
A Loving Family That He Deserved

Once he regained full health and his fur grew back, Baby Thunder was ready to find a forever home. A loving family fell in love with him and offered the stable, caring environment he had always yearned for. Initially, Baby Thunder was shy, often hiding in the bushes during walks. Over time, he became comfortable, understanding that his new family genuinely cared for him.

Baby Thunder’s vibrant personality blossomed, bringing immense joy to his family. He now enjoys life to the fullest, embarking on adventures and snuggling with his humans and his doggy sisters, Kala and Koda.
