The issue of animal abandonment is increasingly troubling and poses a significant concern across the nation. Countless puppies and adult dogs find themselves in perilous circumstances due to the irresponsibility of their owners.
A recent incident in Crowley, Texas exemplifies this problem. A litter of puppies was recklessly discarded in a field on an extremely hot day. Trapped in a carrier, the puppies were on the brink of suffocation and dehydration.
Fortunately, a compassionate passerby witnessed this cruelty and promptly contacted the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.
Saved Just in Time
Deputies Collin Stephenson and his partner, Deputy Haley Drew, quickly responded to the scene. When they arrived, the puppies were clearly exhausted and dangerously dehydrated.
Having been left in a carrier without any water, they urgently needed assistance.
“Yesterday, a litter of puppies was left inside a carrier in a field without water on a day with temperatures soaring to 100°,” TCSO shared on Facebook.
The officers gathered the puppies and placed them in the back of their vehicle. All eight pups appeared to be in shock, but they began to calm down as soon as they could breathe freely again.
They then provided the puppies with water and splashed them with some much-needed refreshment.
While the officers were uncertain exactly how long the adorable puppies had been in the field, they estimated that the pups had likely spent at least a couple of days without any food or water.
Their heartbreaking ordeal quickly gained widespread media attention, leaving many across the nation shocked.
One Puppy Has Already Found Its Forever Home
After their rescue, the puppies were safely relocated to the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center in Texas. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers, these little ones finally received the essential care they needed.
Days later, Officers Stephenson and Drew returned to visit the puppies to see how they were doing. Drew, who is a proud owner of a Golden Retriever and an Irish Wolfhound, was thrilled to be reunited with the rescued pups.
“They all appear to be so much cleaner and healthier now,” she remarked to CBS News.
The wonderful news is that Officer Stephenson chose to adopt one of the puppies, providing it with a loving forever home.
“They are 6 weeks old and are thought to be a shepherd mix. Deputy Stephenson plans to adopt one of them, but the other seven puppies are still looking for homes,” TCSO shared in an update post.
Sadly, the Sheriff’s Office has yet to identify the individual responsible for this cruel act due to the absence of surveillance cameras in the vicinity.
“Unfortunately, without surveillance cameras in the area where the puppies were discovered, it is unlikely that we will be able to apprehend the person who abandoned them,” the Sheriff’s Office noted.
On a positive note, the puppies, affectionately named Cheese Itz, Cheetos, Lays Potato, Fritos, Pringles, Ruffles, and Doritos, are now secure and waiting for someone to shower them with love and care.
