Two Small Puppies Rescued from Freezing Conditions, Owned by a Homeless Man, in Critical Condition

Date:

For some dogs, enjoying a warm and loving home is a wonderful privilege, while for others, it’s merely a distant dream.

When the compassionate team from ThisIsHouston, Texas, first encountered Donny and Marie, they were taken aback. This inseparable pair of tiny siblings was discovered in a shocking state due to their owner’s negligence.

It seemed like Donny and Marie were on the brink of a grim fate, just moments away from what many thought was inevitable…

On the Edge of Tragedy

The two pups were discovered among the belongings of their homeless owner after his arrest.

“These two puppies were owned by a homeless man who was arrested… There were 10 other siblings, but another homeless man kept them, refusing money and then absconded with them,” the rescue organization shared on Facebook.

They were fighting for their lives in the bitter cold. The sight of their white gums and still bodies left rescuers absolutely in disbelief.

“The new babies are in critical condition, and we have little hope, but we’ll do our utmost to help them recover,” they announced in a Facebook post.

The team quickly transferred them to 24/7 care, where they faced a series of tests. Although they tested negative for parvo and their glucose levels, vital signs, and temperature appeared stable, their survival was still uncertain.

From the moment they arrived, these Pittie mixes showed episodes resembling seizures, necessitating a consultation with a neurologist.

Additionally, the two refused to eat and were extremely frail. The medical staff inserted NG tubes into both pups in hopes they would survive the night.

“They’re about 6 weeks old and improving significantly! They are genuinely Pittie mixes, and neither shows any signs of neurological issues now,” their rescuers updated.

The following day marked a turning point.

An Incredible Turnaround

Within just 24 hours, both Marie and her brother began to show signs of recovery. Despite their ongoing health challenges, they gradually started to move, bringing immense joy to everyone at the facility.
