Every single day, staff at the shelter face the challenge of taking in more abandoned and stray dogs. This is a tough situation, yet the compassion these individuals have for these animals compels them to continue their efforts.
Not only do the kennels fill up daily with dogs rescued from the streets or surrendered by callous owners, but the team must also confront some truly distressing scenarios.
One such scenario unfolded when a shelter employee discovered a litter of abandoned puppies outside. Given the severe heat at the time, it’s uncertain how these fragile creatures would have fared had she not intervened.
“Why Are People So Cruel?”
Four adorable puppies spent the previous night outside the shelter before being discovered by Marija Potochan, an employee of @happyshelterdogs.
This compassionate woman felt an overwhelming sadness upon encountering the puppies, yet she quickly composed herself and took them inside before the dangerous heat arrived.
“This morning, four puppies were left outside the shelter. Why are people so cruel? They were huddled in fear. You could hear the shelter dogs barking, the ones we strive to find homes for every day,” the caption on the shelter’s TikTok video stated.
According to one of the shelter’s volunteers, Gemma Williams, the puppies appeared not to be hungry and were clean, indicating that they likely came directly from a home.
“Our assumption is that someone’s pet dog must have given birth, and they were unsure of what to do with the puppies,” she remarked in an interview with Newsweek.
Gemma mentioned that Marija initially believed there were only three puppies. However, after bringing them into the safety of the shelter, she heard frantic cries from outside, rapidly realizing that a fourth puppy needed rescue.
With great urgency, all the puppies were secured from the impending heat, and their futures appeared at least somewhat brighter from that moment onward.
A Video That Moved the Internet to Tears
Since the shelter posted the video on TikTok, people worldwide have witnessed this devastating scene. Unsurprisingly, many were affected by it, leading to numerous responses.

Despite the challenging circumstances at the shelter, the devoted employees and volunteers ensured that the puppies received ample care and the best conditions possible.
“The shelter will cover their vaccinations, food, and ideally prepare them for adoption. It will take at least two months before they are ready for adoption,” Gemma concluded.
