Life can be incredibly unexpected.
One single incident has the power to completely change the course of your life, and it doesn’t always mean it will be for the better. In these circumstances, how we choose to respond is what truly matters.
When a young dog named Scooty found herself in an accident as a puppy, it altered her life forever. The incident resulted in her losing the ability to move her hind legs, rendering her disabled.
Many doubted what her future might hold after the accident, but Scooty had no intention of letting it diminish her joy.
Life Moves Forward

Scooty’s owner, Erica Loring, was determined not to let her furry friend down, actively seeking ways to enhance her comfort and quality of life.
“I had no idea what life would be like for a dog with disabilities,” Loring relayed to The Dodo.
She was aware that a wheelchair for Scooty would enable her to maintain an active lifestyle, although she was uncertain about how Scooty would react.
To her delight, as soon as Scooty adjusted to her new wheels, she demonstrated that there was no need for concern.
“She didn’t even give me a moment to step back and grab a photo. From the very first minute, she was zooming in her wheelchair,” she shared.
Since embracing her new mobility, Scooty has become a whirlwind of energy.
She dashes around the neighborhood as if she’s training for the next Olympics, leaving tire tracks as proof of her speed. However, her speed doesn’t solely rely on her wheelchair.
At the park, Loring would remove Scooty from her wheels, allowing her freedom to run and play with her canine companions—and boy, can she run!
An Inspirational Figure
Scooty has captivated audiences and remains a source of inspiration for both dogs and humans alike.
“She lives without a single worry and can sprint with all her heart. Here we are, 12 years later, and she continues to race down the beach,” stated Loring.

As per Gulf Coast K9, dogs with special needs can take up to four times longer to get adopted compared to their able counterparts.
After adopting Scooty post-accident, Loring aimed to spread awareness that there’s nothing to fear. And there’s no better way to share that than through a heartfelt story!
Loring authored a children’s book that chronicles their life together with her beloved pup. Spoiler: it’s utterly charming!

Learning about Scooty and her uplifting journey truly warmed my heart.
She not only exemplifies perseverance in the face of challenges, but she also highlights that dogs with disabilities can lead vibrant and energetic lives.
All they need is a chance!
