Woman Stunned to Find a Frightened Puppy Locked in a Missouri Dog Park After Dark

Date:

While driving home from her mother’s house on a dark, misty winter night in Parkville, Missouri, Emily Orr passed a dog park and suddenly heard strange sounds resembling cries for help. Feeling something was amiss, she made her way to the park, determined to ensure no one was in distress.

As she approached the locked dog park and peered through the fence, she noticed an abandoned puppy gazing back at her with a pleading expression, desperately awaiting help. Orr’s heart filled with sorrow, compelling her to take action.

Though wishing to investigate further, Orr hesitated to leave her young daughter in the car. She called the police and her mother for assistance while circling the dog park in search of the pup’s owner, but found no one; the dog, later named Emilia, was completely alone.

The frightened pup ran along the fence, following Orr’s car. When she rolled down the window, Emilia looked up with the saddest eyes, clearly terrified of being left alone in the dog park.

Shortly after, the police and Orr’s mom arrived. The officers rushed to Emilia’s aid, and upon seeing them, she began wagging her tail with excitement. “She came to us right away and was unbelievably excited! She jumped right into my mom’s car and loved the treats my mom had brought,” Orr shared with The Dodo.

After the crew helped Emilia, they realized she was in a bad state—malnourished and weak. Orr was certain that if Emilia had spent any more time in the cold, she wouldn’t have survived. She suspected the pup was dumped around sunset.

Orr’s mother took Emilia home, but due to anxiety, the pup barked all night, keeping everyone awake. The next day, Orr’s mom bought her a kennel, which provided Emilia with a sense of security. In no time, she demonstrated impeccable house manners and began to thrive, playing with toys and befriending Orr’s mom’s cats.

The night Orr’s mom’s appendix ruptured showcased truly how special Emilia was. Feeling intense abdominal pain, she lay on the ground, awaiting help. “When Emilia noticed my mom in distress, she rushed to her side and lay down next to her, determined to not leave her alone,” Orr recalled.

“While my mom lay on the floor in excruciating pain, Emilia remained by her side, gently resting her head on her stomach,” Orr added. Recognizing she couldn’t provide Emilia with the forever home she deserved, Orr’s mom decided to reach out to Friends of Parkville Shelter to help find the pup a new loving family.

Though Emilia currently enjoys a loving foster home, she eagerly awaits a forever home. She truly deserves a happy ending!
