Living on the streets can be one of the most terrifying experiences for an animal. Sadly, this is the reality for many dogs around the globe.
As these animals primarily rely on the kindness of compassionate humans, when they encounter someone willing to help, their joy is often overwhelming.
However, due to the numerous trials they have faced, some dogs lose all faith in people, posing a challenge for rescuers attempting to save them.
Never Give Up
Thankfully, rescuers are some of the most dedicated and compassionate individuals, working tirelessly to assist furry companions in distress – and Joey is definitely one of them.
When Joey learned about a sick dog wandering on a busy street, he felt compelled to help. What he didn’t realize was that this rescue would require more than just a single day.
As soon as he approached the dog, Joey recognized the need for significant effort to gain the pup’s trust.
“I have documented countless rescue stories as part of my job. However, witnessing it up close through Joey’s actions was truly humbling. You could feel how frightened and desperate this dog was until Joey showed up,” shared Brielle, a Dodo producer and Joey’s friend, in a video.
Joey began by gathering information about how the dog found himself in such circumstances, believing it would help forge a connection with him. Ultimately, he concluded that offering some food was the best way to help the pup feel at ease.
For the next three days, Joey would visit the spot where the dog was hanging out, speaking in gentle tones while providing delicious food.
“He wouldn’t allow us to approach him at first, so we had to toss chicken and beef towards him. Whenever anyone else came nearby, he would retreat in fear. But I always knew that he was a good dog, one who didn’t deserve to live on the streets and simply needed a chance to experience love,” Joey recounted.
Meant To Be
On the third day, as Joey prepared to transport the dog to the vet after successfully catching him, an incredible event unfolded.
A couple emerged from a nearby restaurant and approached Joey, revealing that they were interested in adopting the pup, but were unsure of how to proceed.
Elated by this wonderful news, Joey chose to take the dog to the vet right away to assess his health before he transitioned to his new family.
“Fortunately, the dog was not really sick, allowing us to implement our plan,” he mentioned.
Since the couple lived in another country, the pup had to first be taken to Los Angeles, where he spent a few days awaiting the arrival of his new family.
Once everything was arranged, his humans traveled to Los Angeles and brought him across the border, where a joyful and fulfilling life awaited him.
“Now, Jesús is enjoying the best life… I can’t wait to see him embrace love and realize that he is safe,” Joey concluded.
