Senior Dog at California Shelter Seeks Loving Home, But Remains Unadopted

Date:

Many dogs face challenging circumstances daily, but stereotypes often exacerbate their struggles.

From the misconception that Pit Bulls are unadoptable to the belief that older dogs are not worth adopting, these stereotypes can lead to tragic outcomes.

A senior dog from Los Angeles, California, embodied this sentiment when he was overlooked by potential adopters who believed he was “damaged goods.”

His sorrowful story moved many and brought tears to their eyes.

His Heartbreaking Story

As reported in a Facebook post by Philozoia, an animal welfare group in Los Angeles, a senior dog named Eeyore was rescued from a euthanasia facility before arriving at their location, where they praised him highly.

“He is crate and house trained, great with kids, and would make a wonderful family pet. Eeyore loves attention and nap time, and he has a playful side. He enjoys toys and takes his stuffed animal everywhere,” they shared.

Despite their hopes that Eeyore would quickly find a forever home, they were sadly mistaken. They struggled to find even a foster home for him for a considerable period.

One day, a compassionate young woman named Harshey learned about his heartbreaking circumstances. Moved by his story, she felt compelled to be his foster mom, allowing his journey to touch more lives.

After some time, Harshey wanted to share Eeyore’s story and recorded a video on her TikTok account.

Fostering is always challenging, but this one is special. A senior dog with significant scarring and asthma is often seen as damaged goods by most adopters. Yet Eeyore has shown nothing but bravery and kindness since I took him in tonight. Please think about adopting Eeyore. He is available through Philozoia rescue in SoCal.

“A senior dog with severe scarring and asthma is often viewed as damaged goods by most adopters. However, Eeyore has displayed nothing but bravery and kindness since I brought him home tonight,” part of her caption states.

The video highlights Eeyore’s poor condition from severe scarring behind his ears and on his back. Harshey noted she would not have realized these scars were due to abuse if he hadn’t flinched when she touched him.

At that moment, clarity dawned: Eeyore was not just a victim of age but also of much worse circumstances.

“I can’t help but worry that no one will ever come to adopt him,” Harshey expressed at the video’s conclusion.

While this video evokes a sense of sorrow, it is heartening to see that Eeyore’s tragic tale resonated with many. His story drew substantial attention and emotional responses.

“It’s shocking how much pain and suffering humans can inflict on these innocent beings. Thank you for caring for him—he truly deserves the best 🙏❤️,” one user commented.

“Sweet, handsome Eeyore🥺 I’m hoping with all my heart that you find the happy ending you deserve❤️❤️🙏,” another wrote.

One viewer even inquired why Harshey doesn’t adopt him, to which she replied: “If I keep him, it means more dogs will remain without a foster home and at risk of euthanasia.”

Through this, Harshey emphasized that the solution lies not in keeping Eeyore but in encouraging people to open their hearts to dogs like him. This change could lead both Eeyore and many other dogs suffering from similar stereotypes to find their happiness.

We hope that this story inspires positive actions, and that Eeyore will soon achieve his happy ending.
