Just when you think there’s nothing new under the sun, a furry companion manages to astonish you.
This time, it was Boey’s moment to shine!
In December 2023, this adventurous pup mysteriously disappeared from his home in Zolfo Springs, Florida.
Boey embarked on an incredible journey, ultimately turning up over 50 miles away in Bradenton, Florida, at an unexpected venue – a Girl Scout campground!
Boey’s Mysterious Adventure
After finding himself in quite the predicament, this sociable pup quickly accepted his fate and began to make new friends. He spent the entire weekend snoozing in the rain outside the girls’ cabins, eagerly waiting for their return.
The mystery was how Boey got there, as he had no collar yet displayed the friendliness of a cherished pet.
Eventually, this adorable furball was taken to the vet for further evaluation.

Following his initial examination, the veterinarians, with the aid of a compassionate rescuer named Patty Giarrusso, president of Lost Pet Services, Inc., assisted Boey in transferring to Manatee County Animal Welfare.
Once he reached his temporary new home, Boey was well cared for, quickly forming new friendships. What the staff initially didn’t realize was that his background was far more intricate than they had anticipated.
Boey wasn’t your typical stray wandering the streets. Moreover, he was not abandoned by his owner to fend for himself.
But where did he come from? What circumstances led him to that Girl Scout campground?
This enigma was soon to be unraveled!
The Mystery Revealed

Joan Pfender, a dedicated volunteer at the shelter, recognized Boey from a local lost pet group. Unsure if it was actually Boey or another dog that closely resembled him, he decided to take a closer look.
After scanning this amiable pup for a microchip, he had a stunning revelation!
Boey indeed had an owner and had been missing for all this time. As soon as he received this encouraging news, Boey’s dad hurried to the shelter to reunite with his cherished companion.

The reunion was incredibly heartwarming when Boey finally saw his owner after such a long time. Although the full circumstances of how this dog ended up more than 50 miles from home remain unclear, the crucial fact is that he is finally safe.
“Fantastic news! Flapjack, also known as Boey, has been reunited with his Dad after going missing since December in Zolfo Springs! Special thanks to Lost Pet Services, Inc. for spotting Boey in a Desoto lost pet group and helping him get back home. Your commitment is amazing,” MCAW shared on Facebook.
“This serves as a significant reminder to never assume a dog has been abandoned and to hold on to hope in reuniting lost pets with their families,” the Lost Pet Services team emphasized.
What could have been a true tragedy transformed into a delightful camp story that Boey and his owner will cherish for years to come. And next time, let’s hope he considers a safer escapade before diving into adventure!
