On her way to San Marcos High School in Texas, teacher Yolanda was unaware of the unexpected event that awaited her.
Just as she was about to step into the school, a group of five adorable puppies suddenly appeared, dashing towards her.
The undernourished pups gazed at her with eyes full of desperation, pleading for the help they desperately needed.
Moved by their plight, Yolanda rushed inside to enlist the aid of her colleague, Belinda Peña, a senior assistant at the school.
Help for the Furballs
When Peña stepped outside to check on these tiny creatures, she discovered a nearby cardboard box and it dawned on her that these pups had been abandoned.
The starving puppies had somehow escaped from the box and were desperately seeking help.
Upon retrieving the box, the compassionate staff found a sorrowful note left behind by the individual who had abandoned the puppies outside the school.
“The dog shelter wouldn’t accept them. We can’t care for them. The original owner intended to discard them. I’m sure you can help. I’m sorry,” read the note.
The teachers and staff quickly gathered the puppies and began to care for them. Knowing it was a hot day, they offered the pups water to help cool them down.
The staff members, who were on limited hours during the summer, felt fortunate to be present at school that day, allowing them to assist the little creatures.
“If we hadn’t been here, who knows what could have happened?” Peña told The Dodo.
The kind-hearted staff contacted animal control. While waiting for the officer to arrive, they played with the delightful puppies.
“They were absolutely adorable. Their big ears were just too cute… they were such joyful little puppies,” added Peña.
One teacher fell for a particular puppy and decided to bring him home.
Seeking Loving Forever Homes
School counselor Kay Lynn Dodd was enchanted by the remaining four puppies. When the animal control officer arrived to take them, she struggled with the thought of parting ways.
“The officer mentioned, ‘It’s the end of the day, and I can’t promise someone will be at the shelter to take them in.’ I couldn’t let that happen,” Dodd recounted to The Dodo.
This kind woman decided to foster the puppies. She aimed to shower them with love and prepare them for their future forever homes.
Thanks to Dodd’s loving care, the puppies flourished. They reveled in playing at their foster home, basking in the affection she generously provided.
She named them Rotund, Buttercup, Bandit, and Snickers. The siblings expressed their gratitude for their foster mom and were incredibly affectionate.
While the puppies adore their time with Dodd, they eagerly await the day they can meet their forever families who will love them infinitely.
