When a few Good Samaritans spotted a frightened puppy scurrying around South Bend, Indiana, in search of shelter, they jumped into action.
The group attempted to approach the sweet dog, but as they drew near, the pup panicked and darted away.
Before fleeing, however, they unfortunately discovered something distressing – the puppy’s muzzle had been zip-tied shut.
Understanding the urgency of the situation, the team of rescuers acted quickly.
The Rescue Operation

The persistent group concluded that their best course of action was to contact the South Bend Police for help.
Fortunately, the police responded promptly, and an officer named Stephanie Northcutt arrived at the location.
Aware that the pup likely suffered from previous abuse, as hinted by the zip-tie, she chose to approach him differently.
Northcutt crouched down to the puppy’s height and spoke gently and soothingly to him, conveying that he had nothing to fear.
This strategy effectively helped her earn the trust of the scared dog, allowing the pup to come close enough for her to pet him.
With her determination, she was able to remove the zip tie and give the puppy his freedom.
Thanks to Northcutt’s body camera, the entire rescue was documented:
Luckily, after a vet check, the puppy was found to be in great health.
However, little did anyone know – except for the pup and Northcutt – that a profound bond had formed that day.
A Love Connection
During the rescue, Officer Northcutt felt an undeniable connection with the puppy.
“Officer Northcutt admitted that the moment she saw the puppy, she realized he would be the perfect addition to her family,” the South Bend Police Department shared in a Facebook update.
The puppy, now named Zeus, finally found himself in the care of those who genuinely loved him.

After some quality time together, Zeus was adopted by Officer Northcutt, officially becoming part of her loving family.
The pup, once unable to open his mouth, now has a beaming smile!

This isn’t the first time this wonderful officer has rescued a pup in distress.
“Zeus is actually the second dog Officer Northcutt has saved while on patrol. She humorously mentioned that [police dispatchers] should reconsider sending her to animal-related calls as she might run out of space at home!” the police department shared.

Closing Thoughts
The South Bend Police Department is committed to uncovering the truth behind the circumstances of this pup’s zip tie.
“The inquiry is ongoing regarding Zeus’ zip tie situation. But for now, happy adventures, Zeus — relish your new home!” officials remarked.
No matter the outcome of the investigation, the vital point is that Zeus is finally receiving the love and care he deserves and is surrounded by people who cherish him.
