Meet Manx, an orange cat affectionately called “Manx of the Memories,” who was rescued from a local shelter and brought into the care of Austin Pets Alive! (APA), located in Austin, Texas.
At APA, Manx encountered Halle Hamilton, a senior manager of the cat program and passionate foster parent, who quickly recognized his friendly nature.
Halle realized that this social orange boy was in need of a companion to enhance his life.
By a stroke of luck, she found an unexpected perfect match for him.
An Unlikely Pair
When a pregnant Chihuahua named Chloe arrived at the shelter, Halle decided to step in as her foster parent.
Although Halle was concerned about how Manx would react, she was pleasantly surprised to witness an instant connection between the two.
“Manx was immediately captivated. Chloe seemed a bit puzzled by him — I mean, what a quirky-looking dog! But as soon as I sat down, Chloe jumped onto my lap, and Manx hopped onto Chloe’s lap. That was it! Total time to best friends: 27 minutes,” Halle shared with The Dodo.
The two quickly became best pals. Manx and Chloe loved lounging together, sharing treats, and grooming one another to keep themselves looking their best.
When Chloe went into labor, Manx was right there by her side throughout the entire process.
“He was ECSTATIC. She was obviously busy, and he couldn’t get the puppies out fast enough. He was either lying right next to her whelping pen, wide-eyed, or jumping in and out of the pen whenever he heard the puppies’ cries to check in on her and them,” Halle explained.
A Joyful Cat
The proud mother and her little ones are thriving in their safe and joyful environment.
Manx remains by their side every minute, excitedly awaiting the day when the puppies mature enough for all of them to enjoy playful days together.
Manx’s journey has transformed from having a caring human to a wonderful friend, and now to being part of a lively litter!
“What’s more thrilling than one puppy friend? How about a whole litter?” Halle remarked.
For the time being, the inseparable duo is focused on nurturing the puppies, ensuring they grow up healthy and happy, and ready for their forever homes.
When that moment arrives, Manx and Chloe hope to find a forever home for themselves. While they would love to remain together, it’s not a strict requirement.
No matter what the future holds, either together or apart, their bond will endure, keeping their cherished memories alive.
Manx will always appreciate Chloe’s companionship, as she turned this once-abandoned shelter cat into the happiest buddy he could ever dream of.
